MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The Old Dominion Men's and Women's Swimming teams wrapped up the three-day West Virginia Invitational on Saturday. The team finished ninth out of 16 teams scoring 786 points. The men's team placed eighth out of 12 teams scoring 491 points and the women's finished tenth out of 16 teams scoring 295 points. Gustaf Hansson broke a school record in the men's 100 backstroke finishing with a time of 48.65.
ODU scored 12 points in the men's 200 freestyle relay as the team of Ben Schattenberg, Hansson, Dawson Truong and Ryan Lincicum placed 12th with a time of 1:23.83.
In the men's 500 freestyle, Grey Bremer scored six points as he took 10th place with a time of 4:29.93.
In the women's 200 IM, Martina Ciriesi scored 13 points after placing 6th with a time of 2:02.07.
Mortimer scored 17 points after placing second in the men's 200 IM with a time of 1:49.27.
Mary Dunworth placed 10th in the women's 50 freestyle with a time of 23.63 which was good enough for seven points.
ODU scored eight points in the women's 400 medley relay. The team of Ally Hilbrich, Dunworth, Ciriesi and Lauren Masters placed 14th with a time of 3:49.86.
In the men's 400 medley relay the ODU team of Schattenberg, Truong, Tristen Wells and Brice Bounds took 13th and scored 12 points with a time of 3:22.56.
ODU scored 10 points in the women's 200 medley relay as the team of Hilbrich, Bridget Morris-Larkin, Ciriesi and Dunworth placed 12th with a time of 1:44.26.
In the men's 200 medley relay the Monarchs scored 12 points after the team of Hansson, Toni Salluka, Jordan Davis and Lincicum placed 11th with a time of 1:31.01.
Ciriesi placed second in the women's 100 butterfly with a time of 54.42 which was good enough for 17 points.
Truong scored four points after placing 13th in the men's 100 butterfly with a time of 49.52.
Ciriesi scored four points in the women's 100 breaststroke after placing 13th with a time of 1:04.06.
In the men's 100 breaststroke, Mortimer scored nine points after placing 9th with a time of 55.70 and Truong scored three points after placing 14th with a time of 56.21.
In the women's 100 backstroke, Hilbrich scored nine points after placing 9th with a time of 55.95 and Dunworth scored three points after placing 14th with a time of 57.03.
In the 100 backstroke Hansson scored 14 points after placing 5th with a time of 48.65.
The Monarchs scored four points in the women's 800 freestyle. The team of Lilly Cleal, Sophia Kapla, Masters and Mallory Mackay placed 15th with a time of 7:49.25.
In the men's 800 freestyle relay, the team of Yagiz Ari, Bremer, Bounds, and Schattenberg palced 10th for 14 points and a time of 6:49.77. The second Monarch team of Ethan Reiser, Russell Hronek, Drew Vanden Heuvel and Alexander Schreck placed 16th with a time of 7:03.54 and scored four points.
In the women's 200 backstroke, Hilbrich placed 10th scoring 17 points and finishing with a time of 2:01.88. Ciriesi placed 17th and scored nine points as she finished with a time of 2:00.77.
Schattenberg placed 12th in the men's 200 backstroke scoring 15 points with a time of 1:49.31. Hansson would score six points for the Monarchs after placing 19th with a time of 1:50.50.
In the men's 1650 freestyle, Ari scored 23 points after placing 7th with a time of 15:57.28, Bremer scored 14 points after placing 13th with a time of 16:04.50 and Carson Doll scored three points after placing 22nd with a time of 16:22.18.
In the men's 200 breaststroke, Mortimer placed 4th scoring 26 points with a time of 1:59.27 and Michael Marotta placed 18th for seven points and finished with a time of 2:07.09.
In the women's 200 butterfly, Ciriesi placed 24th scoring one point and finished with a time of 2:08.22.
In the men's 200 butterfly, Alexander Schreck scored 13 points after placing 14th with a time of 1:52.93, Wells scored five points after finishing in 20th with a time of 1:55.40 and Zander Johnson placed 22nd scoring three points with a time of 1:58.27.
In the women's 400 freestyle relay, ODU had a team of Dunworth, Masters, Peyton Turner and Tanya Yevminova place 24th scoring 12 points with a time of 3:37.05 and the second team of Emma Seidel, Brina Uhlin, Angela Sicaja and Mackay placed 26th for 10 points and a time of 3:37.87.
In the men's 400 freestyle relay the team of Schattenberg, Bounds, Truong and Lincicum placed 14th scoring 28 points with a time of 3:05.02.
ODU is back in action on Dec. 17 at the Open Water Championships in Miami.
