NORFOLK, Va. - Senior women's swimmer Colleen VandePoel and senior men's swimmer Jacob Zeidler had two wins apiece in their final home match of their career for Old Dominion Saturday afternoon, as the women's team defeated George Washington 164-130, while the men fell 162-136.
The women started strong with a win in the 200 medley relay, started off by VandePoel, as she partnered with Ashley Teller, Chandler Shirer and Victoria Barley to finish in a time of 1:46.24.
In the first individual race, Jacklyn VandePoel finished second in the 1000 free in 10:33.39. In the 200 free, Stephanie Norris took second with a time of 1:50.10.
Colleen VandePoel secured her first individual win of the day, notching an ODU pool record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.75. VandePoel also owns the school record in the event.
The win began a stretch of three-straight wins for the women as Ashley Brem won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:04.00. Ashley Teller took second in 1:05.84.
Emilie Petit won the 200 fly in a time of 2:08.48, with teammate Chandler Shirer finishing right behind in 2:10.45.
Sofie Sjoberg earned a second place in the 50 free with a time of 24.50, just .13 behind first.
Diver Amanda Caruso won the three-meter dive with a score of 216.95.
After coming up just short in the 50 free, Sjoberg won the 100 free with a time of 53.32, edging out teammate Leigh-Ann Clark.
Taking her second win of the day, Colleen VandePoel registered a time of 2:03.41 in the 200 backstroke, while Brem, also her second win, was a winner in the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.80.
Senior Raquel Couto recorded a second place finish in the 500 free, while Petit took second in the 100 fly.
The men's squad also started strong, winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.49. Donovan Pope, Philip Nordenberg, Filip Svedberg and Graham Thatcher made up the team.
Lucas Cortini Oliveira finished second in the 1000 free, while Anton Mikalesson also took second in the 200 free, while Pope notched a second in the 100 backstroke.
Zeidler won his first of two races in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 56.01. He also won the 100 free with a time of 46.46.
Thatcher also recorded a victory, in the 50 free, in a time of 21.05.
In the three-meter dive, Cory Moreno won with a score of 308.50.
Philip Nordenberg won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:07.23, while Zeidler was second in 2:23.91.
Filip Svedberg took a win in the 100 fly in a time of 50.11, while Mikalesson was second in the 200 IM.
ODU honored its 10 seniors in a pre-meet ceremony: Chad Hoke, Philip Nordenberg, Graham Thatcher, Jacob Zeidler, Lindsay Anderson, Victoria Barley, Raquel Couto, Stephanie Norris, Colleen VandePoel and Julia Vido.
Diver Cory Moreno and swimmer Mary Escobar sang the national anthem prior to the meet.
