NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's rowing team finished in first place in all five events following Saturday's Opening Spring meet against the University of North Carolina on the Lafayette River.
ODU secured four first place finishes on Senior Day in the Varsity 8 and placed first in the Varsity 4 race Saturday afternoon against the previous ACC Champion UNC Tar Heels.
"I am so proud of the entire team for their performance today," said ODU Head Coach Dan Garbutt. "I was really proud of the Varsity four group, the level of speed they showed relative to our eight's. We gave the girls a task of trying to be as close to sixty seconds off the Varsity 8 as possible. Little more work to do in every lineup, which is pretty much where everybody is at right now. Beautiful day for the race, Norfolk shined today."
The race began with the Varsity-8 and the Lady Monarchs came away with a first place time of 6:54.30 to UNC's 7:00.69. ODU was led by coxswain Lydia Cleveland with Erin O'Connell at stroke, Kennedy Stafford at 7, Paige Madison at 6, Raven Howser at 5, Colleen Rennie at 4, Jenna Sterling at 3, Marisa Fruetel at 2 and Keira Flanagan at bow.
