LADY MONARCH MOMENTS:
Old Dominion is looking to snap a three-game losing streak in its Colonial Athletic Association opener against Virginia Commonwealth on Monday night.
The Lady Monarchs fell 79-72 at Ole Miss Friday night dropping its third straight contest. Old Dominion has not lost three-in-a-row since the 2006-07 season with a 68-64 loss to Charlotte on Dec. 17, 2006, a 86-71 setback at Middle Tennessee on Dec. 19, 2006, and a 75-59 home loss to Tennessee on Dec. 22, 2006.
Old Dominion closed out the non-conference schedule at 5-5 with a pair of wins over the A-10 (Dayton, Saint Joseph's), as well as the ACC (Virginia),West Coast (St. Mary's), and MEAC (Norfolk State), and a pair of losses to the SEC (Tennessee, Ole Miss) as well as to members of the ACC (Maryland), Big 12 (Texas), and Big 10 (Michigan State).
Monday night's contest will be a rematch of the CAA Championship game in which the Lady Monarchs won its NCAA record 17th straight league title overcoming an 18-point deficit to win the crown with a 71-64 victory.
Senior Tiffany Green, the Lady Monarch's leading scorer at 16.2 points per game, is coming off a career-high 24 point effort against Ole Miss. The Lady Monarch post also hauled in 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year. Green has scored in double figures in all but one contest this season.
Monday's contest will be aired on ESPN Radio 1310 with the Old Dominion men's contest at William & Mary airing on Star 94.1.

ABOUT VCU:
Virginia Commonwealth enters Monday's game with the top non-conference mark in the CAA at 10-2 and is riding a six game winning streak. VCU has not lost since a 56-48 setback at Richmond on December 3rd. The Rams only other loss was a 77-65 defeat at the hands of No. 6 North Carolina in Chapel Hill back on November 16th. The Rams, who reached the second round of last year's WNIT, returns eight letterwinners and three starters. Among the returnees is Chesapeake native and senior center Quanitra Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth, who missed the last 11 games of last season with an achilles tendon injury, has returned to pour in a team-leading 14.8 points along with a team-leading 9.1 rebounds per game. Joining Hollingsworth in averaging double figures is senior forward Radoslava Bachvarova at 10.3 points per contest and junior guard Kita Waller at 10.0 points per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES WITH VCU:
The Lady Monarchs hold a 53-8 record in the all-time series with the Rams with Old Dominion winning the last 11 outings and 30 of the last 31. The ODU and VCU rivalry dates back to the 1969-70 season where the two teams squared off against each other each season until 1979. The rivalry renewed when VCU joined ODU in the Sun Belt Conference and continued when the Rams joined the CAA for the 1995-96 season. The Rams snapped a 35-game CAA Lady Monarch win-streak back on February 6th, 2003 at the Siegel Center. Old Dominion fell, 56-67, in their first CAA loss in nearly two years. Since then, the Lady Monarchs have rattled off 11 straight wins over Virginia Commonwealth.
LAST TIME VS. VCU:
T.J. Jordan celebrated her 22nd birthday in perfect fashion - helping cut down the nets after yet another championship.Jordan and Tiffany Green each scored 15 points and No. 14 Old Dominion rallied from an 18-point deficit to win its 17th consecutive Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship with a 71-64 victory over Virginia Commonwealth on March 16, 2008. Jazzmin Walters contributed 12 points and Shahida Williams, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, had 10 for the top-seeded Lady Monarchs, who improved to 50-0 in CAA tournament games since joining the league before the 1991-92 season. It was the fourth CAA title for seniors Jordan and Williams. It was the third title for Green, who is a junior.Old Dominion coach Wendy Larry picked up her 500th career win at the school in the semifinals. But win No. 501 may have been even sweeter.Krystal Vaughn and D'Andra Moss had 16 points and 10 rebounds each and Radoslava Bachvarova added 15 for VCU, which had already set a school record for victories, easily surpassing the 21 it achieved during the 1986-87 season. The Rams had won six straight games before competing in the championship game for the first time.Old Dominion trailed 38-30 at halftime but quickly tied it at 41. After the Lady Monarchs built a 50-45 lead, VCU responded with a 5-0 run to tie it at 50.From there, Old Dominion scored seven of the next nine points - four by Green and three by Jordan - to extended its advantage to 57-52 with 4:55 left.VCU never got within three the rest of the game.Bachvarova's third 3-pointer of the first half gave VCU a 34-16 lead with 6:04 remaining. But Old Dominion came right back with a 14-2 run to close to 36-30 before falling behind by eight at halftime.The Rams shot 56 percent from the field (15-of-27), including 6-of-9 from 3-point territory.
COLONIAL DOMINANCE:
Old Dominion has captured 17-straight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) titles since joining theleague from the Sun Belt Conference during the 1991-92 season. TheLady Monarchs are in the NCAA record books for capturing the mostconsecutive conference championships. In league play, Old Dominionholds a 311-17 overall record, which includes eights seasons of undefeated play. The Lady Monarchs hold a 161-2 record at home and a150-15 road record. Only two CAA losses have occurred on OldDominion's homecourt. The first was back at the ODU Fieldhouse,the former Lady Monarch homecourt from 1969-2002, againstRichmond, now of the Atlantic-10, with a 70-74 defeat on February19, 1992 and the second versus Delaware with a 70-73 setback onJanuary 9, 2005. Five schools in the league have yet to beat the LadyMonarchs - Georgia State (6-0), George Mason (43-0), Northeastern(5-0), UNC-Wilmington (36-0), and Towson (12-0).

Old Dominion closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule at 5-5. The Lady Monarchs went 3-2 at home, 0-2, on the road, and 2-0 in neutral site action. The Lady Monarch's last win on the road (in a non-neutral court setting) againt a non-conference foe was last season with a 80-65 victory in Nashville over #20/21 Vanderbilt on December 30th, 2007.

STOPPING THE SKID:
The Lady Monarchs are looking to end a three-game losing streak on Monday night against the Rams. Old Dominion has dropped contests #11/13 Tennessee (76-81), #15/16 Maryland (65-74), and Ole Miss (72-79). The Lady Monarchs last victory was on December 12th in a 74-51 win over Saint Joseph's.
SEEING DOUBLE:
Old Dominion senior post Tiffany Green has reached double figures in all but one game this season (Saint Joseph's). In her last outing, Green captured a career-high 24 points, while posting her fourth double-double of the year with 13 rebounds.
DISH IT TO ME:
Senior Jazzmin Walters isn't the only play maker on the roster. Fellow classmate Jen Nuzzo, who will also run the point at times, registered seven assists in ODU's last outing at Ole Miss, for a new career mark.
GETTING THE NOD:
Freshman Mairi Buchan record her first career start as the rookie center played in place of the injured Jessica Canady. Buchan ended the game with six points, five rebounds, and three assists. Buchan's start was the first the Lady Monarch rookie to see the starting line-up since the 2005-06 season. The last Lady Monarch freshman to receive a starting nod was current senior Jazzmin Walters, who had her first career start against Virginia Tech on Nov. 25, 2005 in her rookie campaign.
NON-CONFERENCE ENDS AT THE TED:
The Lady Monarchs closed out non-conference action at the Constant Center with a 74-65 setback to #15/16 Maryland on December 21st. Old Dominion finished the 2008-09 season at 3-2 in non-conference action at the Ted Constant Convocation Center with wins over #16/11 Virginia, Norfolk State, and Saint Joseph's, and losses to #11/13 Tennessee and #15/16 Maryland.
LOSSES IN-A-ROW AT THE TED:
Old Dominion fell in back-to-back games (#11/13 Tennessee and #15/16 Maryland) for the first time since dropping contests to top-ranked UConn (86-43) and #4 and national runner-up Stanford (69-61) during the Paradise Jam last Thanksgiving in St. Thomas. Old Dominion dropped back-to-back home games for the first time since falling three straight to Florida International (80-76) on December 21st 2005, #5 North Carolina in overtime (88-80) on December 29th, 2005 and top-ranked Tennessee (83-67) on January 2nd, 2006.
HOME COURT STREAK COMES TO AN END:
The Lady Monarchs saw its 29-game homecourt win streak come to a close in the 81-76 loss to #11/13 Tennessee. Old Dominion was tied along with the University of Hartford for the nation's longest active home win streak. The win streak dated back to the Dec. 30, 2006, 72-55, victory over national runner-up Rutgers. ODU's previous last home loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center was also against Tennessee, 59-75, back on Dec. 22, 2006.
FAMILIAR FOE BREAKS HOME STREAK:
Tennessee has broken several of ODU's home court win streaks in the past. In addition to Thursday's 29-game home game win streak snapped, the Lady Vols also halted the Lady Monarch's 64-game home win streak in 1981, 33-game home win streak in 1999, and a 17-game home win streak in 1995.
