Kelly Lyons is one of only five Lady Monarchs to both score over 2,000 career pointsand grab over 1,000 career rebounds. During her four-year career, she averaged 24.7 pointsand 10.2 rebounds from 1986-1990. She completed her career shooting a school record (887-1373) 65 percent from the field for four seasons.
In 1990, Lyons led the nation in field goal percentage at .694 (308-444) and was selected as SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Player of the Week that season. She scored 20 or more points 22times and broke the 30-point barrier six times. She hauled in ten or more rebounds 18 times. Thatsame season, Lyons scored a career high 42 points against four-ranked Texas. Her best rebounding outing was against Notre Dame when she hauled down 16. In 1990, she was named the sun Belt Conference Tournament MVP and the Old Dominion alumni Association FemaleAthlete of the Year.
Lyons was a three-time All-Sun Belt performer as she scored 2,224 career points and had1,008 career rebounds. She was a two-time Kodak All-District All-American selection in 1989 and 1990. The Virginia Collegiate Player of the Year and member of the USA National team in the World University games in 1989. Lyons graduated in 1990 with a B.S. and B.A. degrees inmarketing.
