LADY MONARCH MOMENTS:
The Old Dominion women's basketball team won its 29th consecutive home game to tie Hartford for the nation's longest active home win streak in their last outing against Saint Joseph's. The Lady Monarchs have three homes games - Tennessee, Maryland, and the CAA opener against VCU, before the Hawks play at home again on January 7th against Binghamton.
The Lady Monarchs take on Tennessee for the 32nd year in a row. Old Dominion has only faced conference rival James Madison more in the history of the Lady Monarch program. The Lady Monarchs are looking to snap a 12-game Lady Vols win streak dating back to 1997.
Sophomores Shadasia Green and Jasmine Parker each collected career-highs in the last outing against Saint Joseph's. Parker led all scorers with a career-high 19 points, while Green posted her first career double-double with a career-high 14 points and career-tying 11 rebounds.
The next two home games - Tennessee and Maryland - will air on Comcast SportsNet (Ch. 35 - Hampton Roads). Paul Crane and Joe Ciampi will handle the duties for the Lady Monarchs against #11/13 Tennessee while John Castleberry and Jody Lavin-Patrick will call the action against Maryland.

ABOUT TENNESSEE:
The defending and eight-time NCAA Champion Tennessee Lady Vols enter the Constant Center with a 7-2 overall record coming off a 73-59 loss at #6/5 Texas Sunday. The loss to the Longhorns snapped a six-game win streak. The Lady Vols other loss on the season came in an 83-82 defeat in Knoxville to Virginia, a team the Lady Monarchs defeated 78-70 in their 2008-09 home opener. The Lady Vols have a pair averaging double figures. Freshman forward Glory Johnson is putting up a team-best 15.4 points per game and hauling in a team second-best 8.2 rebounds per game. Fellow rookie Shekinna Stricklen is averaging 12.3 points per contest and leads the team in steals (23). Sophomore post Vicki Baugh leads Tennessee on the boards at 9.0 rebounds per game along with a team-leading 16 blocks. The Lady Vols are headed up by Pat Summitt, who is just 10 wins shy of her 1,000 career victory. Summitt, the NCAA leader in men's and women's hoops in wins, holds a 990-184 record in 35 seasons.
LAST TIME VS. TENNESSEE:
Old Dominion had to take the court without the services of leading scorer in T.J. Jordan, as then senior guard needed time off her foot due to a stress reaction. The Lady Monarchs suffered a 83-51 loss in Knoxville to the top-ranked Lady Vols back on December 5th of last year. Sophomore Shadasia Green was one of the bright spots for the Lady Monarchs. Then in her rookie campaign, Green netted a career-high 10 points. Tiffany Green scored a then-season high 14 to lead Old Dominion. Angie Bjorklund scored 19 points and Candace Parker added 14 as for the Lady Vols. Nicky Anosike added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Vols Megan Pym and Jessica Canady, who averaged 10.5 points each for Old Dominion entering the game, were held to seven and six points respectively.Tennessee, which had given up a school-record 57 rebounds against North Carolina in their previous outing,outrebounded the Lady Monarchs 45-35. However, they were beaten 16-13 on the offensive end.
ODU VS. THE SEC:
Old Dominion holds a 28-42 all-time mark against teams from the SEC, with 41 of those meetings coming against Tennessee. Last season, the Lady Monarchs went 2-1 against the SEC, which included a pair of back-to-back road victories - a 71-62 win at Kentucky and an 80-65 win at #21/20 Vanderbilt.
A FEAT NOT SEEN OFTEN:
Can Old Dominion be one of two teams in the last 12 years to hand the Lady Vols back-to-back losses? Kentucky accomplished the feat on January 26, 2006 in a 66-63 win in Lexington following a Tennessee loss to Duke in Durham. Can the Lady Monarchs be next?
HOME COURT STREAK:
The Lady Monarchs are tied with Hartford for the nation's top active home court win streak. Old Dominion has won 29 straight home contests dating back to the Dec. 30, 2006, 72-55, victory over national runner-up Rutgers. ODU's last loss at theTed Constant Convocation Center was against national champion Tennessee, 59-75, back on Dec. 22, 2006. Hartford's next home game is on January 7th against Binghamton.

Brittany Pittman of Morehead State currently leads the nation swatting away 6.0 shot per game. Last season, Green led the CAA in rejections at 1.94 per game. She is currently sixth on the CAA All-Time Blocks Leaders List with 172 career swats.

The Old Dominion women's basketball team will head into this week's contests against Tennessee and Maryland receiving votes for the third consecutive week. The Lady Monarchs have ranked as high as No. 23 in the poll. Five opponents on the 2008-09 Lady Monarch slate are featured in the poll, including undefeated Texas at No. 5 and defending NCAA champion Tennessee coming in at No. 11. Also in the Top 25 are Maryland, the 2006 NCAA Champions, seated at No. 15 and No. 17 Virginia. Michigan State slipped out of the poll after suffering four consecutive losses.

The Old Dominion women's basketball team continues to receive votes in the Coach's Poll for the third consecutive week. The Lady Monarchs ranked as high as No. 20 in the poll.
