Hutchinson, Fullmer, Ogletree & Tunnicliffe Headline All-Time Sailing Squad

NORFOLK, VA.--In celebration of the 75th anniversary of Old DominionUniversity, Terry Hutchinson('90), K.C. Fullmer ('83), Charlie Ogletree ('89) and Anna Tunnicliffe ('05) headline the 13-member All-time ODU sailing squad as voted by the fans on the ODU athletic website.

Hutchinson was a four-time collegiate sailing All-American and was a two-time National Collegiate Sailor of the Year in 1989 and 1990. K.C. Fullmer was ODU'sfirst ever sailing All-American in 1983, and as head coach he led the Monarchs tofive national championships from 1986 to 1995, Charlie Ogletree earned All-American honors in 1989 and then won a silver medal for the United States in the 2004 Olympic games in Australia. Anna Tunnicliffe won three Singlehanded national titles and was a two-time women's sailor of the year.

Rounding out the team are: Jim Weber (`90), John Torgerson ('98), Sally Barkow(02), Mike Zagol ('99), Mike Martin (89), Patrick Downey (95), Mitch Brindley ('89), Flurry Norman ('89) and Kim Logan ('93).

Hutchinson was one of the nations premier collegiate sailors for four straight years. He earned first team All American honors in each of his four years at ODU, andhelped lead the Monarchs to four national championships. In 1989 and 1990 Hutchinsonwas named National Collegiate Sailor of the Year. Hutchinson skippered ODU to victoryin the 1989 Collegiate Sloop National Championships in Santa Cruz, CA., and the Dinghy National title in Chicago. In 1990 he took second at the Collegiate SinglehandedNational Championships in Annapolis, MD. He was inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.

Fullmer, along with current head coach Mitch Brindley has the distinction ofearning All American honors as student athletes and leading their alma mater to nationalchampionships as head coaches. In nine seasons, Fulmer guided the Monarchs to seven national championships and two consecutive Fowle Trophies in 1989 and 1990 as thebest overall program in the nation. He coached 25 All-Americans and seven Olympians.As a student athlete, Fullmer was ODU's first collegiate sailing All-American in 1983. He was inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1990.

Ogletree earned first team Collegiate Sailing All-American honors in 1989after leading the Monarchs to a fifth place finish at the ICYRA Collegiate sailing TeamRace National Championships. A three-time Olympian for the United States, Ogletreeteamed with John Lovell to win the silver medal in the Tornado sailing class. He wasinducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

Tunnicliffe became the first collegiate sailor to win three straight SinglehandedNational Championships from 2002 to 2004. She earned All-American honors three straight years. She was named ODU's Alumni Association's Female Athlete of the Year,selected the Norfolk Sports Club's Tom Scott Award as the top senior athlete at ODU, and the Portsmouth Sports Club's Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year in Virginia. She is currently a member of the U.S. National sailing squad and ranks numbertwo in the world by the International Sailing Federation.

Jim Weber was a four-time collegiate sailing All-American from 1987-1990.As a senior, he skippered the Monarchs to the 1990 ICYRA Collegiate Team NationalChampionship in Boston, MA., teaming with fellow Monarch four-time All-American,Terry Hutchinson. That same year, he was a member of the second place dinghy nationalchampionship team. In 1987 and 1988, Weber was a member of the 420 Class WorldChampionship team. He as inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.

John Torgerson was the 1998 ODU Alumni Association's Male Athlete of the Year, and was the number one ranked sailor on the U.S. men's national team that year.He helped lead the Monarch sailors to two ICYRA National Championships as a senior,winning the Team Race and Co-ed Dinghy titles in 1997-98. As a junior, Torgersonwon the ICYRA Singlehanded National Championships in Charleston, SC. He was inducted in the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in April of 2006.

Sally Barkow is a three-time All-American, earning those honors in 2000,`01 and `02. In the fall of '02 she successfully defended her ISAF World Match RacingChampionship. That same year, she placed third at the ICSA women's Singlehanded National Championships and skippered the Lady Monarchs to the ICSA Women's National Championship crown.

Mark Zagol is a two-time All-American, earning those honors in 1998 and1999. In 1998, he won the B-Division at the Dinghy National Championships. As a senior, Zagol placed second at the ICYRA Singlehanded National Championships. Hethen skippered ODU to fifth place at the Co-Ed Dinghy National Championships. Hewas one of four finalists for Collegiate Sailor of the Year.

Mike Martin became the first ODU sailor to capture the ICYRA Singlehanded National Championship. As a junior, Martin took fifth at the National Championships in Charleston, SC. He earned All-American honors three times and in 1997, Martin captured the 505 Class World Championships. He was inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.

Patrick Downey, a three-time All-American sailor, was instrumental in ODU'sthird place finish in the 1995 ICYRA Team Race National Championships and eighthplace finish at the Dinghy Nationals. As a sophomore, Downey won the 1993 ICYRA Sloop North American Championship in Honolulu, HI. The two-time team MVP wasinducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

Mitch Brindley, current ODU head coach has been directly involved in obtainingnine of the school's 15 national championships as both a crew member and coach. Asa student athlete, Brindley was twice named to Sailing World's All-Star Crew All-American squad. He crewed for ODU when they won national championships in the sloop in 1988, the dinghy in 1989.

Flurry Norman-Yanez was one of the most dominating women sailors duringher four years at ODU. A three-time All-American, Norman earned those honors from1987 to 89. She skippered the Lady Monarchs to the ICYRA Women's National Champions in 1989and was the 1985 Laser II National Champion. She was a three-timeteam MVP and was inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.

Kim Logan earned collegiate sailing All-American honors in 1990 and1991. She helped lead ODU to a third place finish at the Women's National Championships in 1990 and a fourth place finish at the Sloop National Championships in1990-91. In 1992, Logan finished sixth out of 27 in the Olympic qualifying in theEurope Dinghy Class. Logan won the silver medal at the Pan Am games for the EuropeDinghy Class in 1995. She was inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
