NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion sailing team sets off for the 2026 season with a pair of competitions. On Saturday, Feb. 28 the Monarchs women’s sailing team heads to Alexandria, Va. to compete against four programs in a DC Team Race that begins at 10 a.m. The coed sailing team will participate in a 10-team Team Race event on Saturday at Navy.

The women’s sailing team will wrap up the weekend’s slate of events with a 16-boat fleet race.

“Both the regattas this weekend offer an important, early-season opportunity to take stock in how our team’s race skills are developing,” said ODU head coach Mitch Brindley. “After a scrimmage last week we realized we needed to put some focus on our light air boat handling. We made some adjustments this week in practice; now we get to check the progress.”

The Monarchs participated in a quad scrimmage on Feb. 21-22 against Navy to gear up for this weekend’s competitions.

On Saturday ODU’s women’s sailing team matches up with Fordham, Georgetown, and St. Mary’s (Md.) for a 3-on-3 team race.

Starting for the Monarchs in boat one will be junior skipper Gianna Dewey paired with freshman skipper Mary Petra Humphrey. ODU’s second boat features a pairing of sophomore skipper Mariana Conde and junior crew Molly Hanson. The third and final boat participating in the event includes freshman skipper Arabella Duer and junior crew Morgan Auth, junior skipper Olivia Gilmore serves as the alternate.

The coed team will meet up with Christopher Newport University, Cornell, Fordham, George Washington, Georgetown, Hobart William Smith College, Pennsylvania, and St. Mary’s (Md.) for a 3-on-3 team race.

Boat one’s duo will be Diogo Silva and Helena Allocco. Boat two consists of junior skipper Blake Goodwin and senior skipper Lindsey Kaufmann. Rounding out the Monarchs’ participants is sophomore skipper Pierce Brindley and freshman crew Maddie Bivins. Sophomore crew Caspian Collett will serve as the alternate.
