NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s basketball will be back on its home court this Sunday as the Monarchs host the Hampton Pirates for a 2 p.m. exhibition game at Chartway Arena.

Ted Alexander and Dennis Wolff will call the game on Fox Sports Radio 1310 AM and live stats will also be available.

ODU and Hampton have met seven times previously with the Monarchs ahead in the all-time series, 5-2. After Old Dominion won the first five meetings, HU snapped that streak with an 84-77 victory on Dec. 18, 2001 in the ODU Fieldhouse. The following year saw the Pirates win again, 77-70 on Dec. 4, 2002 in Hampton.

About ODU

The Monarchs finished 15-20 overall and 8-10 in Sun Belt Conference play last season. ODU was picked to finish fifth in the league’s Preseason Coaches Poll with Robert Davis Jr. voted as the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year. Jordan Battle, a transfer from Coastal Carolina, also earned some preseason recognition with a spot on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Third Team.

Davis Jr. led all of Division I last season with 348 three-point attempts and ranked fifth nationally with 3.41 three-pointers per game. The junior from Detroit, Michigan is the team’s top returning scorer after averaging 15.6 points per game in 2024-25.

For Battle, the senior returns to his hometown after leading the Chanticleers last season with 12.8 ppg. He was the SBC’s top free-throw shooter with an 80.8% success rate at the line, and he was also the league’s top three-point shooter in conference play after making 52.6% of his shots from the perimeter.

Caelum Swanton-Rodger is also back after finishing second on the team last season with 167 rebounds (4.9 rpg). The senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada was second in the Sun Belt with 61 blocks and 1.79 blocks per game and was tabbed the league’s Best Defender in Lindy’s Sports 2025-26 preview magazine.

Other returners include Stephaun Walker, Scottie Hubbard, Donovan Raymond, CJ Parker, Rieco Hellams, Cooper Jones and Ben Nacey. The Monarchs added additional transfers in KC Shaw (UMES), LJ Thomas (Austin Peay), Drew McKenna (Georgetown), and Jared Turner (Northeastern). Old Dominion has two true freshmen in Zacch Wiggins and Elijah Flowers.

Head Coach Mike Jones enters his second season at ODU.

About Hampton

The Pirates are coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which they went 17-16 overall and 8-10 in the CAA. It marked the team’s first winning season in the past five years. HU advanced to the CAA Championship Quarterfinals after defeating No. 7 seed Northeastern 70-65 on March 8, but fell 79-65 to second-seeded UNCW on March 9.

Hampton was picked to finish fifth in the CAA’s Preseason Poll, with guards Xzavier Long and Daniel Johnson named as Preseason Honorable Mentions. Long made 30 starts last season and averaged 7.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per outing. He also led the Pirates with 23 blocks. Johnson, an All-CAA Rookie Team selection last season, made 18 starts and averaged 7.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

HU will be without its top two scorers from 2024-25. The Pirates lost their leading scorer, Noah Farrakhan, to graduation. He paced the offense with 439 points (14.2ppg) and also owned team highs with 83 assists and 39 steals. George Beale Jr. netted 430 points (13.0 ppg) and made a team-high 62 three-pointers, but has since transferred to UCF.

Head Coach Ivan Thomas is also entering his second season. The Pirates have seven returners and nine newcomers.
