NORFOLK, Va. – For the first time in 2022, the Old Dominion University men's basketball team takes the home floor this weekend for a pair of Conference USA matchups.  On Thursday night, they face the UTSA Roadrunners and on Saturday they'll tangle with the UTEP Miners inside Chartway Arena in a 7 p.m. tip for both. 
 
The Monarchs are 6-8 overall and 1-0 in Conference USA play after defeating FIU 82-77 on December 30.  Austin Trice was blistering hot going 10-for-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line for a season-high 25 points and added nine rebounds to go with a career-high four assists.  Mekhi Long had a double-double of 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, while C.J. Keyser added 16 points and Charles Smith IV chipped in with 10 points.
 
ODU hit a season-high 57.9% from the field (33-57), was 10-of-12 from the foul line (83.3%) and held a 35-24 advantage on the boards over the Panthers.
 
UTSA enters the game with a 7-9 record and an 0-3 mark in Conference USA play.  They lost last weekend to Southern Miss 74-73 and Louisiana Tech 79-63.  Jordan Ivy-Curry leads UTSA in scoring at 15.1 ppg, while Jacob Germany is second in scoring (14.4 ppg) and in rebounding at 6.6 per game.  Cedrick Alley, Jr. leads the Miners in rebounding at 6.8 per game.
 
As a team, UTSA is averaging 69.5 points per game, while allowing 71.7.  From the field, UTSA is hitting .386 and .292 from 3-point range, while opponents are hitting .445 from the field and .352 from 3-point range.  The Roadrunners are outrebounding opponents by almost two per contest (40.8 to 38.9).
 
The all-time series between these teams are tied at 5-5, while as members of Conference USA the Monarchs lead 5-4.  They last met in the 2019-20 season with ODU winning the last meeting 84-59 in Norfolk.  
 
UTEP heads to Norfolk for a Saturday matchup after taking on Charlotte two nights earlier.  The Miners are currently 8-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.   Souley Boum leads the Miners in scoring at 19.6 points per game, while Keonte Kennedy is second in scoring (13.3 ppg) and leads in rebounding (5.9 rpg).  Jamal Bienemy rounds out the double figure scorers at 13 points per game and leads in assists with 43.
 
All-time with the Miners, ODU leads the series 5-2 and have won the last five meetings.
