Game 12 Preview: Old Dominion vs. Charlotte

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football hosts Charlotte in the season finale on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.

> Old Dominion is coming off a 38-17 loss at Middle Tennessee, while Charlotte won its home finale against Marshall, 24-13. Charlotte became bowl eligible for the first time in school history.

> True freshman Hayden Wolff started his third-straight game and threw 65 passes, the second most in school history. He was 39-of-65 for 321 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He tossed a 63-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Moore, the longest ODU play this season.

> Aaron Moore broke ODU's single-game record with 14 receptions, while recording 194 receiving yards including the 63-yard TD grab. He came into the game with eight catches on the year.

Wolff Wingin' it
True freshman quarterback threw 65 passes last Saturday at Middle Tennessee, the second most pass attempts by any FBS quarterback this season. Wolff's 39 completions were the eighth most in any game this season. He threw for 321 yards and tossed a 63-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Moore. The 63-yard was the longest ODU offensive play this season.

Moore Breakout
Coming into the Middle Tennessee game, Aaron Moore had eight catches for 163 yards. Against the Blue Raiders, he caught a school record 14 passes for 194 yards. The 14 catches are the fourth most by an FBS receiver this season.

Garner Looks Record
Lawrence Garner leads Conference USA and ODU with 104 tackles. His 104 tackles are the third most in a single-season in ODU history. He is the second ODU player to have two, 100 tackles seasons. Garner needs 19 tackles to break the ODU single-season record for tackles. The 19 tackles would also be a single-season record for tackles.

70th Oyster Bowl
Satuday's game against Charlotte is the 70th Oyster Bowl. based Khedive Temple of the Shriners, with a portion of the revenue going to children's charity. The game began in 1946 with a local high school game, and since then has mostly been a college game featuring some of the top teams in the country, including Syracuse, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Navy and others. The last Oyster Bowl played in Norfolk prior to ODU's revival of the game was in 1995 between Georgia Southern and VMI, a 31-13 Eagles win. After that, the game moved to Newport News and Hampton, where Christopher Newport and the Apprentice School became the main home squads. In 2011, the game was brought back to Foreman Field, where ODU defeated James Madison 23-20. ODU is 7-1 in the Oyster Bowl. This will be the first Oyster Bowl in the new Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.

Kesean Strong
Strong ranks ninth in ODU history with 966 rushing yards and seventh with 13 rushing touchdowns. He led the Monarchs in rushing in 2018 with 499 rushing yards. He has 71 carries for 293 yards and three touchdowns this season, and leads ODU with 25 receptions, along with 191 receiving yards. He has played in 10 games this season, starting four at running back.

Bailey Cate
Cate holds ODU career records for most punts in a career with 239, most yards with 9445, and most punts inside the 20 with 81. He also holds the ODU single-season record for punts with 66 in 2017. He has also been a holder for all kicks the last four years. Cate was named to the C-USA all-freshman team in 2016.

Tony Barnett
Barnett has started the most games by any current Monarch, making 41 starters up front. Forty of those starts have come at left guard. The other, due to injuries on the o-line, came at right tackle. Barnett has been as steady as they come up front, starting all 11 games at left tackle this season.

Mufu Taiwo
The president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), Taiwo has played in all 11 games this season, and recorded his first career start last week at Middle Tennessee. He has seven tackles, three for a loss and half a sack this season.

Brad Davis
Davis developed a niche the past three seasons as ODU's kickoff man. In his career he recorded 58 touchbacks. He still holds the ODU single-season record for field goal percentage for a kicker when he was 10-for-12 in 2016. He kicked a field goal and three PAT's in ODU's 24-20 Bahamas Bowl win over Eastern Michigan. Davis was named to the Conference USA all-freshman team in 2016.

Calvin Brewton
A graduate transfer from Florida State, Brewton battled injuries at Florida State, but has started all 11 games at safety this season. Brewton is fourth on the team with 55 tackles and has one tackle for loss. He also has two pass breakups on the year.

Darrell Brown
A former walk-on, Brown is ODU's all-time leader in career punt returns with 55 and 455 punt return yards. He holds the ODU single-season record for punt returns in a season, and his 210 punt return yards in 2017 is the second most in ODU history. He has also caught a career-best 12 passes for 99 yards this season. For his career, he has 21 receptions for 209 yards. He earned Conference USA all-freshman honors in 2016, and first-team All-Conference USA honors in 2017.

Chris Cunningham
A graduate transfer from Virginia Tech, Cunningham has tied his career high with nine catches and has 95 yards. Eight of his nine catches have gone for first downs.

Terez Dickerson
A former walk-on that came to ODU as a safety, Dickerson has been a solid contributor on special teams and at linebacker. He has 18 tackles on the year, including three special teams tackle, and one tackle for loss. For his career, he has 58 tackles.

Tobias Moss
A graduate transfer from South Alabama, Moss has played in nine games, starting seven at cornerback. He has 25 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and four pass breakups. He also brought a veteran presence to the secondary.

Hasaan Patterson
Patterson has played in eight games this season, starting three at wide receiver. He has six catches on the year for 52 yards. He had a career-high four catches for 41 yards against East Carolina. For his career, he has 14 catches for 182 yards and a touchdown. He caught an 18-yard touchdown against UNC, and last year in the win over Virginia Tech, caught a 37-yard pass.

Nathan Thacker
A walk-on transfer from Wake Forest, Thacker has provided depth on the offensive line and has been a good teammate. He has already earned his degree from Old Dominion.
