NORFOLK, Va. – In the regular season finale, the No. 34 nationally ranked Old Dominion men’s tennis team (16-6) took down William & Mary (10-9) by a 4-3 score on Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, the Monarchs clinched the victory with a 4-1 score, but continued to play out the two remaining singles matches.

“First of all, I’m so happy for our seniors to defend home court on their last home match,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “We had an amazing crowd and I think some guys pressed too hard in some critical moments. This late in the season it’s all about winning and advancing and we did that. Now we are looking forward to Conference USA Tournament next week.”

The five seniors honored prior to Sunday’s match were: Javier Jover Maestre, Adam Moundir, Jacob Nicolussi, Vincent Schneider and Michael Weindl. This year’s senior class has taken the Monarchs to back-to-back C-USA Championship matches and achieved a Top 30 national ranking in three consecutive seasons. This senior class won 81 dual matches for ODU. Between the Fall and Spring and all five seniors combined in singles and doubles, Jover Maestre, Moundir, Nicolussi, Schneider and Weindl have accumulated 533 total wins.

The Tennis Monarchs have claimed victory in 10 of their last 11 matches, while outscoring their opponents 44-17 during that stretch. ODU is also riding a eight-match win-streak in which the Monarchs have outscored their opponents 34-12.

The next stop for Old Dominion will be the C-USA Tournament, which begins on Friday, April 20 in Houston, Texas.
