NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion and Quinnipiac concluded their three-game set with a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Complex.
Quinnipiac (6-6) won the series by taking game one, 5-2, but the Monarchs (6-9) answered in the series finale with an 11-0 shutout victory. It was ODU's first shutout since April 2 of last season against Charlotte.
In game one, the Monarchs managed just two runs off of Quinnipiac starter Brandon Shileikis, who went seven strong innings. Culver Lamb and Matt Schwarz were the lone producers of ODU's runs. Lamb went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, while Schwarz went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Brett Smith received the loss on the mound for ODU. In 5.1 innings of work, Smith allowed four runs and struck out seven, which tied his career high.
In game two, Morgan Maguire tossed seven shutout innings and the Monarchs poured on seven runs in the sixth inning to break the game open.
Maguire scattered five hits, walked none and struck out five in a career-best seven innings of work. Luke Krantz, who made his ODU debut, and Ryne Moore finished off the shutout.
At the plate, Vinnie Pasquantino and Jimbo Reemsnyder had big days for ODU. Pasquantino went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs and Reemsnyder went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Bryce Windham also added three RBIs.
Up next, the Monarchs host VMI on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
