WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The ODU men’s tennis team (3-1) is set to travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to begin the ITA National Kick-Off this weekend. ODU’s first of two matches will be against the No. 1 nationally ranked team Wake Forest (2-0) on Friday, Jan. 26 at 5:00 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
If the Monarchs come out victorious, they are set to play the winner of the Vanderbilt (3-0) and Portland (0-1) on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 5:00 p.m. If they lose to Wake Forest, they will play the loser of the Vanderbilt and Portland match on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2:00 p.m.
The Monarchs have won three out of four matches to start this season, with their only loss coming to the No. 23 nationally ranked team, Columbia, by a 4-3 score.

Meet Wake Forest
This season marks the seventh season for head coach Tony Bresky. In his first five seasons, Bresky has accumulated a 104-52 record giving him the best overall winning percentages of any coach in program history. He has guided Wake Forest to three ACC tournament championship appearances, the program’s first-ever conference title and the program’s third NCAA Tournament round of 16 berth. Junior Petros Chrysochos has been honored with two Singles All-American awards as well as the 2016 ITA All-American Champion in singles. Senior Skander Mansouri also has a full resume, he is a two-time Singles All-American as well as a two-time Doubles All-American.
Meet Vanderbilt
This season marks Ian Duvenhage’s 12th season as the head coach of the program. Duvenhage has led his team into the NCAA Tournament seven of the past eight seasons. Last season, Vandy knocked off four top-25 teams and had a pair of All-American doubles players in senior Rhys Johnson and freshman Cameron Klinger. Klinger is the youngest player in the program to earn All-American honors. They finished the season with a 17-14 overall record, going 6-6 in conference play, which led them to make the program’s 15th NCAA Tournament appearance.
Meet Portland
Head coach Aaron Gross is in the midst of his 21st season at the helm of the program. Last year, Gross led Portland to its first ever WCC title. Gross earned the 2017 WCC Coach of the Year award and the Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Coach of the Year recognition after leading his team to an 18-3 overall record. Michail Pervolarakis is ranked at No. 18 in singles according to the ITA National Rankings. Portland also had a duo make the All-WCC First Team in doubles team in players Michail Pervolarakis and Mathieu Garcia.
