ODU Football Notebook: ODU Running Backs Receive High Praise

Old Dominion University running backs Ray Lawry and Jeremy Cox received preseason accolades recently.

The duo was recently ranked the No. 2 running back combo in Conference USA by Underdog Dynasty, while Lawry was ranked the No. 21 running back in the country by the Sporting News.

In 2016, Lawry broke his own single-season school rushing record with 1,255 yards while rushing for 11 touchdowns, and also catching 11 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.  Cox rushed for a career-best 732 yards and a team-high 13 touchdowns while catching 11 passes for 118 yards, including a season-long 84-yard touchdown reception at Florida Atlantic.

Monarchs in Mini Camp
Former Monarchs Rashaad Coward (Chicago Bears), Zach Pascal (Washington Redskins) and Anthony Wilson (San Francisco 49ers) participated in NFL rookie mini camps in the past few weeks.

ODU will also have a trio of former Monarchs participating in upcoming mini camps, including Taylor Heinicke (Minnesota Vikings), Rick Lovato (Philadelphia Eagles) and Larry Pinkard (Jacksonville Jaguars).
