NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's rowing team will split its squad this weekend between the San Diego Crew Classic in California and the Occoquan Sprints in northern Virginia.
ODU will send its top Varsity Eight to the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic for competition on both Saturday and Sunday. The regatta, held annually at Mission Bay, is one of the largest regattas in the world held primarily for eight-oared rowing shells. The two-day event consists of over 100 races and includes over 4,000 athletes.
The Lady Monarchs' top Varsity Eight is coming off of a two-win performance at the UNC Invite last weekend that garnered Big 12 Boat of the Week honors.
ODU will also send a total of five boats to the the Occoquan Sprints in Fairfax Station, Virginia, on Sunday. ODU's second Varsity Eight along with two Varsity Four and two Novice Eight boats will compete at the college-only event, hosted by George Mason.
Racing begins at 10:10 a.m. ET/7:10 a.m. PT at the San Diego Crew Classic with ODU slated to race its first heat between 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT. The final heats are then scheduled for either Saturday morning or Sunday morning, depending on the first heat result.
The Occoquan Sprints begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday and are set to conclude at approximately 2:30 p.m.

This weekend's events mark the third weekend of competition for the Lady Monarchs this spring. ODU opened the spring with a set of home races against George Mason, before traveling to Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, North Carolina, for an entire day of racing against North Carolina, Georgetown and West Virginia.
