IRVING, Texas -- Following a dominant performance in last weekend's races at Raleigh's Lake Wheeler, the Old Dominion women's rowing team's first Varsity Eight boat has been named the Big 12's Boat of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday.

In the first of two 2000-meter races at Lake Wheeler last Friday, ODU (7:01.1) defeated West Virginia (7:10.3) by over nine seconds in the morning session. In the afternoon session, the first Varsity Eight boat (6:50.8) defeated Georgetown's top boat (6:56.1).
The award is the first weekly Big 12 honor of the 2015-16 season.
The Lady Monarchs' top Varsity Eight boat returns to action this weekend at the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Mission Bay in California.
