RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Old Dominion women's rowing team completed a full day of racing against host North Carolina, Georgetown and West Virginia at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday.
The Lady Monarchs competed against all three opponents in a series of 2,000-meter races, earning several victories over both West Virginia and Georgetown.
In the morning session, the Lady Monarchs earned victories over Big 12 foe West Virginia in both the first and second Varsity 8+ races. In the first Varsity 8+ race, ODU (7:01.1) defeated the Mountaineers (7:10.3) by over nine seconds. The Lady Monarchs' second Varsity 8+ boat (7:11.0) then topped WVU (7:21.7) by over 10 seconds.
In addition, the Lady Monarchs' Varsity 4 defeated West Virginia. The V4 also registered a victory over Georgetown in the afternoon session.
Also in the morning the sessions, ODU finished second to host North Carolina in the third Varsity 8+ (7:35.3), Novice 8+ (7:35.1) and Novice 4+ (8:40.9).
In the afternoon session, ODU's two top Varsity 8+ boats once again earned victories, as the first Varsity 8+ boat (6:50.8) defeated the Hoyas' top boat (6:56.1) and the second Varsity 8+ boat (7:11.0) surged past Georgetown's second boat (7:17.6).
Also in the afternoon, the Lady Monarchs' Novice 4+ (8:13.4) finished second to Georgetown and the Novice 8 (7:28.6) finished second to North Carolina. In the final race of the day, ODU's Novice 4+ finished second (8:36.9), placing ahead of UNC, but behind WVU.
