Lady Monarchs Qualify For ICSA Women's Nationals

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The fifth-ranked Old Dominion women's sailing team earned a spot at the ICSA Women's Nationals after finishing fourth this past weekend at the 2010 MAISA Women's Championship Regatta held on the Severn River off the Robert Crown Center.

Junior Stephanie Roble skippered Old Dominion to a first and three seconds in six A-Division races sailing with sophomore Emily Reich. Junior Morgan Wilson and Reich garnered two seconds and a fourth as ODU finished second in the A-Division.

Senior skipper Katrina Williams guided the Lady Monarchs to a fourth-place finish in the B-Divisoin. Williams and Wilson got four top-three results, including a win in six races. Freshman Shannon Wilkins joined Williams for the final three races.

St. Mary's, ranked No. 3 nationally, won the regatta with 56 points. No. 10 Georgetown and No. 12 Hobart/William & Smith each had 61 points, while ODU just trailed the pack with 64 points.

All of the top four finishers, along with Navy and Pennsylvania, qualify for the ICSA Women's Nationals that run May 25-28 in Madison, Wis.

Old Dominion also participated at the Admiral's Cup at Kings Point, sailing to a 10th-place result.

Alan Alkins sailed with Dillon Paiva and Michael Komar in the A-Division and the trio combined for five top-five finishes, including a win in the final race of the weekend.

Thomas O'Bryan, Zach Runci and Jessica Milligan competed for the Monarchs in the B-Division. The group garnered three top-five results. Sophomore Collin Leon took home ninth in the C-Division for ODU.

Old Dominion will next compete in the ICSA National Co-Ed Dinghy Western Semifinal in Seattle, Wash. May 1-2. The top-nine teams will advance to the ICSA/Gill National Championship in Madison, Wis., June 1-3.
