ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS:
The Old Dominion women's basketball team, winners of an NCAA record 17 consecutive Colonial Athletic Association titles, enters the post-season at 16-12 overall and as the number four seed after collecting an 11-7 conference mark. Senior Tiffany Green continues to lead the squad at 14.3 points and along with a team second best 9.1 rebounds per game. Green is among the Top 20 all-time at ODU in scoring and Top 10 all-time in rebounding. Additionally, she ranks fourth in the conference in blocked shots and is fourth all-time in the league in the category. Green is followed by junior Jessica Canady, who after last year as ODU's "sixth Lady", has tranisitioned into the starting line-up for 12.3 points per game and a team-leading and conference second-best 9.5 rebounds. Canady missed the early part of the CAA slate with a fractured thumb but has returned to the court to pour in eight double figure scoring contests and six double figure rebounding games since her comeback. Point guard Jazzmin Walters is also a member of the starting five averaging double figures. Walters is adding 10.3 points and 3.3 rebounds to the mix and has recently rejoined the line-up after missing eight games with a fractured leg. Walters ranked seventh all-time at ODU in career assists. Coming off the bench is sophomore Jasmine Parker. Parker, who spent some time as a member of the starting five due to injuries, is averaging 10.3 points, which included a career-high 21 points against top-seeded Drexel.
ABOUT THE CROWNS:
Since joining the CAA in the 1991-92 season, Old Dominion has captured the league tournament title each season for an NCAA record 17 consecutive league titles and owns a 50-0 record in CAA Tournament action. Next on the consecutive conference crowns list is last year's NCAA first round match-up Liberty, which has won 11 Big South titles in a row, while ODU's "Sweet 16" opponent, Connecticut, won nine titles from 1994-02.
NEVER SAY NEVER:
Last season the Lady Monarchs rallied from an 18-point deficit in its 71-64 victory over third-seed Virginia Commonwealth in the 2008 CAA Championship game. It was the largest deficit in the championship game the Lady Monarchs have ever had to rally from. The win gave Old Dominion its NCAA record 17th straight conference title.
SEMIFINAL SMILES:
Last season in Old Dominion's 74-51 semifinal victory over Towson, head coach Wendy Larry earned her 500th career win at her alma mater. To date, Larry holds a 519-177 record in 22 seasons at ODU and a 568-208 career mark over her 25 seasons at the head of the Old Dominion, Arizona, and Virginia Wesleyan programs.
DEEPER POST-SEASON SUCCESS:
The Lady Monarchs have dance on to the NCAA Tournament 17 straight times and 26 times overall. Old Dominion a 34-24 overall mark in the NCAA Tournament having captured the national title in 1985.
LAST SEASON'S NCAA RECAP:
l Last season, the Lady Monarchs picked up its first win in NCAA action since the 2002 season. Fifth-seeded Old Dominion danced to the "Sweet 16" defeating Liberty, 82-62, in the first round and Virginia, 88-85, in overtime. The Lady Monarchs fell to eventual Final Four participant, Connecticut, 63-78.
HEADING TO HARRISONBURG?:
The Old Dominion University athletic department will offer bus transportation to the CAA Women's Basketball tournament in Harrisonburg, VA., for the semifinal and championship rounds on March 14 and 15, should the Lady Monarchs advance in the tournament. The bus will depart each day from the Ted Constant Convocation Center, returning after the Old Dominion Lady Monarch game. The cost of the bus each day is $50 and includes roundtrip transportation and game ticket. A minimum of 40 fans must register for the bus each day to guarantee the transportation package. PLANTING THE SEED:
Old Dominion will be the No. 4 seed at the upcoming CAA Tournament. The Lady Monarchs will play on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of the first round game featuring the No. 5 UNC-Wilmington/No. 12 George Mason.
ALL THAT JAZZ:
Old Dominion welcomed back senior Jazzmin Walters to the hardwood on January 26th in the 65-57 victory over Towson. The 5-2 senior point guard had missed eight games after suffering a fractured fibula of her left leg in the January 25th loss to James Madison. In her return, Walters recorded six points, four steals, and seven assists. In her three games since her return, she has averaged 6.7 points and 5.3 assists per contest.
SEEING DOUBLE:
Old Dominion has had three different Lady Monarchs collect double-doubles this season. Leading the way has been Tiffany Green with 10 double digit scoring and rebounding performances. Green has totaled 28 career double-doubles. Additionally, Green has posted double figure scoring in all but three games this season. Junior Jessica Canady has posted eight double-doubles this season, including four after coming back from a fractured thumb. Sophomore Shadaisa Green has performed the double-double twice this year as well.
WELCOME BACK SHADASIA:
Shadasia Green suited up for her first game since January 8th, after being awarded an academic appeal by the NCAA to lead the Lady Monarchs with a career-high 19 points to help snap ODU's three-game losing streak with a 70-54 win over Northeastern on February 5th at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Since returning to the active line-up, Green has averaged 11.7 points per contest.
PTD BECOMES A PTP:
Freshman Pryncess Tate-Dublin made her Lady Monarch debut on January 29th at Georgia State. Tate-Dublin was to redshirt the 2008-09 season, but the plan was scrubbed due to the amount of injuries suffered by the Lady Monarchs roster this season. Tate-Dublin played 14 minutes in her debut with four points and two rebounds.
IN THE "L" COLUMN:
The seven CAA losses for the Lady Monarchs this season are the most for ODU in CAA. ODU suffered five losses in 1991-92, their first year in the league. That season, however, Old Dominion went on to capture the first of its NCAA record 17 straight CAA titles.
FIRST EVER LOSS:
Old Dominion's 57-63 loss to George Mason on February 22nd was the Patriot's first ever win over the Lady Monarch program. Old Dominion entered the game at 44-0 all-time against George Mason.
D-D-D-DEFENSE:
The ODU defense held the Seahawks to its lowest field goal percentage of the season at 28 percent back on February 8th. UNC-Wilmington hit only 14 of its 50 attempts from the floor. The Seahawk bench was only able to net six of its team's 46 points.
CAA LOSING STREAK:
Losing isn't something that's common with the Lady Monarchs in the CAA and losing streaks in the conference are certainly rare. Old Dominion, who dropped contests to James Madison, Georgia State, and VCU has only put together a three-game losing streak in the CAA three times since joining the leagu e in the 1991-92 season. Old Dominion fell to VCU, James Madison, and Delaware in a row in 2002-03 and James Madison, Richmond, and East Carolina in its first season in the league in 1991-92.
THE UNHAPPY RECAP:
The Old Dominion women's basketball team had its 37-game CAA home win streak snapped and was handed only its third home CAA loss in history with a 72-67 loss to James Madison on January 25th. The Dukes' Dawn Evans, who leads the nation in scoring, ignited for 36 points. Old Dominion, meanwhile, shot only 18 percent in the second half and went just 25-of-40 from the free throw line. The loss was only the Lady Monarch's third ever conference loss on its homecourt having suffered a 70-74 loss to Richmond on February 19, 1992 and Delaware on January 9, 2005 with a 70-73 setback. Old Dominion drops to 164-3 at home against the CAA and 317-18 all-time.
CAA HOME COURT STREAK:
The Lady Monarchs had won 37 straight home CAA contests before its 67-72 loss to James Madison on January 25th. The streak started back on January 14, 2005, with a 78-59 victory over Virginia Commonwealth. Prior to the January 25th loss, ODU's last conference loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center was against Delaware, 70-73, on January 9, 2005. Old Dominion holds a 164-3 home CAAmark. Since the loss to James Madison, the Lady Monarchs have picked up five straight wins at the Constant Center
CAA ROAD STREAK:
The Lady Monarchs have dropped their last six CAA road contests. ODU's last win on a hostile court has a 66-48 win over William & Mary at Kaplan Arena back on January 22nd.
WELCOME BACK SHORT STUFF:
Senior Jazzmin Walters missed the January 15th match-up with George Mason with a knee injury, but you certainly would not have noticed when she return to the court the next game against Georgia State. Walters poured in a game-high 18 points along with five assist and three steals in helping the Lady Monarchs to a 62-46 victory.
HOW LOW CAN YOU GO?:
The 42 points scored by the George Mason Patriots on January 15th were the fewest netted by an ODU opponent this season. Additionally, the Lady Monarchs limited the Patriots to just 26.3 percent from the floor (15-of-57), the lowest field goal percentage by an ODU opponent in 2008-09.
HOW HIGH CAN YOU GO?:
Conversely there were several Lady Monarch who registered career marks in 73-42 victory over George Mason on January 15th. Sophomore Sierra Little, in her first career start, poured in a career-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Fellow classmate Jasmine Parker, in her third career start played a career-high 36 minutes. Rookie Mairi Buchan, who started her fifth straight contest, dished out seven assists and collected three thefts for career marks. Senior Jen Nuzzo tied her career mark with three steals, while classmate Tiffany Green tied her steals mark with five. Sophomore Vicki Collier tied her career-high with four boards.
CLUTCH AT KAPLAN:
Tiffany Green seems to like playing at Kaplan Arena. In addition to helping Old Dominion escapeWilliamsburg on free throw shooting in 2007 and 2008, Green poured in her eighth double-double of the year with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Back on Jan. 20th, 2008, Green was at the line with 1:11 remaining against the Tribe, putting the her in a similar circumstance to the previous season. In 2007, Green, who at times struggles from the charity stripe, iced two free throws to seal a 56-52 win. Last year, Green once again went to the line, with Old Dominion clinging to a one-point lead last year, and nailed both her free throw attempts and followed up with a lay-up after the Tribe missed a three-pointer in an attempt to tie the score to seal the game.
GETTING THE NOD:
Freshman Mairi Buchan recorded her first career start as the rookie center played in place of the injured Jessica Canady. Buchan ended the game with six points, five rebounds, and three assists. Buchan's start was the first the Lady Monarch rookie to see the starting line-up since the 2005-06 season. The last Lady Monarch freshman to receive a starting nod was current senior Jazzmin Walters, who had her first career start against Virginia Tech on Nov. 25, 2005 in her rookie campaign. Buchan has recorded 10 starts and averaged 5.2 points and 3.9 rebounds.
ONE FOR THE ROAD:
The Lady Monarchs picked up its first road victory (non-neutral site) win of the year with a 79-70 victory at UNC-Wilmington on January 8th and followed it up with a 66-56 win at Northeastern.
WELCOME TO THE TED:
Since the doors opened at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in 2002, the Lady Monarchs have enjoyed a 92-15 record.
LOTS OF WHISTLES:
There were whistles a plenty in the Lady Monarchs contest with UNC-Wilmington on January 8th. The 26 fouls called on the Lady Monarchs were the most this season surpassing the previous high of 25 against #15/16 Maryland on December 21st. Senior Tiffany Green, sophomore Sierra Little, and freshman Mairi Buchan spent the last 11 minutes of the first half with at least two fouls and with 4:48 remaining in the half, all available posts had two or more fouls. In all, the first half endured a combined 25 fouls. No Lady Monarch fouled out of the contest despite six Lady Monarchs having recorded two or more fouls at the half. Mairi Buchan, JasmineParker, Alena Voronina, and Sierra Little ended the game with four fouls each.
NON-CONFERENCE COMES TO A CLOSE:
Old Dominion closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule at 5-5. The Lady Monarchs went 3-2 at home, 0-2, on the road, and 2-0 in neutral site action. The Lady Monarch's last win on the road (in a non-neutral court setting) against a non-conference foe was last season with a 80-65 victory in Nashville over #20/21 Vanderbilt on December 30th, 2007.
NON-CONFERENCE ENDS AT THE TED:
The Lady Monarchs closed out non-conference action at the Constant Center with a 74-65 setback to #15/16 Maryland on December 21st. Old Dominion finished the 2008-09 season at 3-2 in non-conference action at the Ted Constant Convocation Center with wins over #16/11 Virginia, Norfolk State, and Saint Joseph's, and losses to #11/13 Tennessee and #15/16 Maryland.
LOSSES IN-A-ROW AT THE TED:
Old Dominion fell in back-to-back games (#11/13 Tennessee and #15/16 Maryland) for the first time since dropping contests to top-ranked UConn (86-43) and #4 and national runner-up Stanford (69-61) during the Paradise Jam last Thanksgiving in St. Thomas. Old Dominion dropped back-to-back home games for the first time since falling three straight to Florida International (80-76) on December 21st 2005, #5 North Carolina in overtime (88-80) on December 29th, 2005 and top-ranked Tennessee (83-67) on January 2nd, 2006.
HOME COURT STREAK COMES TO AN END:
The Lady Monarchs saw its 29-game homecourt win streak come to a close in the 81-76 loss to #11/13 Tennessee. Old Dominion was tied along with the University of Hartford for the nation's longest active home win streak. The win streak dated back to the Dec. 30, 2006, 72-55, victory over national runner-up Rutgers. ODU's previous last home loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center was also against Tennessee, 59-75, back on Dec. 22, 2006.
FAMILIAR FOE BREAKS HOME STREAK:
Tennessee has broken several of ODU's home court win streaks in the past. In addition to Thursday's 29-game home game win streak snapped, the Lady Volsalso halted the Lady Monarch's 64-game home win streak in 1981, 33-game home win streak in 1999, and a 17-game home win streak in 1995.
OH SO CLOSE:
The five-point, 81-76, defeat was the closest loss for the Lady Monarchs in the Lady Vol's current 13-game win streak over Old Dominion. The next closest game was a 10-point, 68-58, setback back on Jan. 2nd, 2005. Old Dominion led as late as 1:57 in the game, holding on to a 71-70 edge. The game saw 12 lead changes and nine ties. Tennessee led by no more than seven in the contest
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP:
Sophomore Jasmine Parker earned her first career start against #11/13 Tennessee back on December 18th. The 5-6 second-year Lady Monarch ended the night with 14 points as one of four Lady Monarchs in double figures going 5-of-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. As a member of the starting five, Parker has averaged 11.4 points per game.
ADDING DEPTH:
Sophomore Sierra Little made her first appearance of the 2008-09 season against #11/13 Tennessee. Playing 12 minutes, the sophomore Lady Monarch tied her then career-high with five boards against the Lady Vols and added a pair of blocks and three points.

Four opponents on the 2008-09 Lady Monarch slate are featured in the poll, including Texas, Tennessee, Maryland, and Virginia. The Lady Monarchs have ranked as high as No. 23 in the poll.

POUR IT ON IN THE PAINT:
The Lady Monarchs scored 56 points in the paint against Norfolk State, two more points than the entire Norfolk State team combined in the 97-54 victory back on November 20th.
CAVALIER KILLER:
Something about playing the Virginia Cavaliers seems to bring out the best in senior guard Jazzmin Walters. Last season, Walters nailed the game-winning three-point shot against the Cavaliers with 4.8 seconds remaining in overtime to send the Lady Monarchs to the "Sweet 16" for the first time since 2002. In the rematch last week, Walters collected a career-high 24 points going 6-of-10 from the field and 11-of-12 from the line to help the Lady Monarchs to 78-70 upset victory over #16/11 Virginia.

Tiffany Green averaged 17.0 points and 8.7 rebounds, while Jessica Canady poured in 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds over the three-day tournament in games against #14/13 Texas, St. Mary's and Dayton.
PRESEASON AWARDS:
Three Lady Monarchs were named to Preseason All-CAA teams. Senior forward/center Tiffany Green was a First Team selection. A First Team All-CAA pick a season ago, she averaged 11.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and led the CAA in blocks. Senior guard Jazzmin Walters and junior Jessica Canady were Second Team picks. Walters led the CAA in assists, while Canady averaged 11.0 points as the Lady Monarchs' "sixth woman" and led the league in field goal percentage.
CAA PRESEASON POLL - WE'RE #1:
Old Dominion, which has captured the past 17 Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball titles, was picked to repeat as conference champion in 2008-09 according to a vote of the league's coaches, sports information directors and media. The Lady Monarchs, advanced to the "Sweet 16" and earned a 31-5 overall record last season, were followed in the voting by Virginia Commonwealth, James Madison, Drexel, Towson, UNC-Wilmington, Delaware, Georgia State, Northeastern, William & Mary, Hofstra, and George Mason.
IN MEMORY OF KAY:
Head coach Wendy Larry was many of the friends and colleagues attending the funeral of N.C. State coach Kay Yow on Friday, January 30th.
HOOPS FOR A CURE:
ODU's annual HOOPS FOR A CURE took place on February 15th with a 70-55 win against Delaware. The Lady Monarchs sported pink Nike shooting shirts and the Ted Constant Convocation Center featured pink nets. ODU Athletics also held a pre-game health fair and honored breast cancer survivors in the annual "survivor walk" prior to tip.
THINK PINK:
ODU headed to Drexel on February 12th as the Dragons promoted breast cancer awareness as part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's PinkZone initiative. The Lady Monarchs were also apart of George Mason's breast cancer awareness game on February 22nd at the Patriot Center.

Green helped Old Dominion kick off the 2008-09 season with a pair of wins over St. Mary's and Dayton at the World Vision Classic by averaging 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Green led all scorers with 19 points as six different Lady Monarchs scored in ODU's 93-63 season opening victory over St. Mary's. She followed by posting her 18th career double-double in the Lady Monarchs' 70-58 win over Dayton. The 6-2 Chesapeake, Virginia native collected 15 points along with a career-high 16 rebounds. On the week Green, shot 50 percent from the field and last year's CAA leader in shot blockers totaled six rejections.

Junior Jessica Canady helped the Old Dominion women's basketball team close the 2008-09 regular season with an 87-72 win over William & Mary by pouring in 16 points and 10 rebounds. It was the junior Lady Monarch's eighth double-double of the season. Canady shot 54 percent from the field going 7-of-13. Additionally she added two blocks and four steals.

Freshman Mairi Buchan was one of six Lady Monarchs in double figures in Wednesday night's 87-72 regular season finale victory over William & Mary. Buchan shot 83 percent from the floor going 5-of-6 from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. She also hauled in three rebounds in the victory.

Old Dominion holds a 14-2 record against Drexel as these two teams became annual rivals when the Dragons entered the CAA in the 2001-02 season. Both of the Dragons' victories were at the Daskalakis Center with ODU dropping the 2005 regular season finale, 71-68, and falling 55-67 on February 12th of this season. In the 2005 rematch, Old Dominion edged out Drexel, 64-63, in the CAA Tournament semifinals en-route to the Lady Monarchs' 14th straight CAA title.

ALL-TIME SERIES WITH VCU:
The Lady Monarchs hold a 54-9 record in the all-time series with the Rams. The ODU and VCU rivalry dates back to the 1969-70 season where the two teams squared off against each other each season until 1979. The rivalry renewed when VCU joined ODU in the Sun Belt Conference and continued when the Rams joined the CAA for the 1995-96 season. The Rams snapped a 35-game CAA Lady Monarch win-streak back on February 6th, 2003 at the Siegel Center. Old Dominion fell, 56-67, in their first CAA loss in nearly two years. The Lady Monarchs went on to win 12 straight wins over Virginia Commonwealth, including a thriller of a game in a one-point, 69-68, victory to open up the 2009-09 conference slate. The Rams however took the next meeting, 58-51, in Richmond to snap the ODU win streak. Old Dominion defeated VCU three times last season, including overcoming an 18-point deficit in the CAA Championship game en-route to title number 17.

ALL-TIME SERIES WITH JAMES MADISON:
The Lady Monarchs have faced no other opponent as many times as they have the Dukes. The two teams have met 68 times with the Lady Monarchs owning a 50-18 advantage in the all-time series. James Madison snapped ODU's 37-game CAA win streak with a 72-67 victory back on January 25th at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The loss was only Old Dominion's third CAA loss on its home court. The Dukes swept the season series, only the third CAA to do so, with a 73-57 victory on March 1st. Old Dominion holds a 15-2 overall mark against the Pride. Both of Hofstra's victories occurred at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead. The Pride gave the Lady Monarchs a 66-51 loss back on February 19th in the lone meeting of the regular season between the squads. Hofstra and Old Dominion have faced each other three times in tournament action, including a 76-59 semifinal win in 2007 and a 94-73 semifinal victory in 2006 both at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Tigers remain one of three CAA teams that have yet to defeat the Lady Monarchs. Old Dominion holds an 13-0 all-time record since the two teams became conference rivals when Towson joined the league in the 2001-02 season. The closest game between these two teams occurred on February 5, 2004 as the Lady Monarchs escaped the Towson Center with a 68-64 victory. Old Dominion defeated Towson, 65-57, in the lone regular season match-up on February 26th. Last season, the Lady Monarchs danced on to the CAA championship game with a 74-51 win over fifth-seeded Towson in the tournament quarterfinals giving head coach Wendy Larry her 500th career win at ODU.

Old Dominion holds a 12-3 all-time record . One of the Fightin' Blue Hen's three victories over Old Dominion came at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in a game that snapped ODU's 122 CAA home game win streak. The Lady Monarchs won the first three meeting before Delaware picked up its first victory over the Lady Monarchs in 2003 with a 58-50 victory. However, in the rematch, the Lady Monarchs captured their 12th straight CAA title with a 66-58 win in the CAA Tournament championship game. Three seasons ago, during the 2004-05 season, the Blue Hens swept the season series from the Lady Monarchs, however, once again, the Lady Monarchs rebounded by defeating Delaware, 78-74, in the championship game of the CAA Tournament. The game, which gave ODU its 14th consecutive CAA title, went into overtime and was one of the most memorable tournament finales in memory. Old Dominion and Delaware met just once this year with the Lady Monarch downing the Blue Hens, 70-55, in ODU's annual HOOPS FOR A CURE game.
