LADY MONARCH MOMENTS: Old Dominion closes out the week heading to Northeastern for the first of two meetings with the Huskies. The Lady Monarchs are coming off a 79-70 road win at UNC-Wilmington.
The Lady Monarchs are certainly well traveled. Old Dominion has kicked 2009 by being the following states - Tennessee (en-route to Ole Miss), Mississippi, North Carolina, and now Massachusetts.
The Huskies are one of five current members of the CAA that have not defeated the Lady Monarchs.
The bench certainly came up big for the Lady Monarchs in Thursday's win over the Seahawks. Vicki Collier, Sierra Little, and Alena "Russia" Voronina all came off the bench to capture career numbers in helping the Lady Monarchs to victory. Along with Collier's career-high eight points, Little reset her mark with a career-high seven points, and Voronina playing in a career-high 13 minutes went 3-of-3 from the field to collect a career-high six points.
The ODU bench produced 32 points in the 79-70 victory at UNC-Wilmington on Thursday. It was the most points the non-starters had recorded since the Lady Monarch's 74-51 win over Saint Joseph's back on December 12th.
Following Sunday's game with Northeastern, the Lady Monarchs will return to the friendly confines of the Ted Constant Convocation Center for a pair of games. ODU will host George Mason on Wednesday, January 15th, followed by Georgia State on Sunday, January 18th in a tv game.

ABOUT NORTHEASTERN:
The Northeastern Huskies enter Sunday's contest sporting a 4-9 overall record and 1-1 in CAA play. The Huskies have fallen in three of their last four, including Thursday night's 71-51 loss at Hofstra. sophomore guard Jasmine Crew leads the Huskies at 12.8 points per game with junior forward Kim Carr adding in a team second-best 10.3 points per contest. Junior forward Kendra Walton leads Northeastern on the boards at 7.2 rebounds per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES WITH NORTHEASTERN:
Old Dominion leads the all-time series 5-0. The Huskies are one of five CAA teams that have yet to record a victory over the Lady Monarchs. Last season, the Lady Monarchs won a 76-37 contest at Solomon Court on January 24th as current junior Jessica Canady netted a career-high 28 points, which included 22 first half points along with a string of 14 consecutive points. Old Dominion also won its match-up at the Constant Center on February 14th with an 83-45 victory.
LAST TIME VS. NORTHEASTERN:
The No. 13/14 Old Dominion women's basketball team captured its 15th win of a 19 game win streak with an 83-46 win over Northeastern Valentine's Day afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.Former Lady Monarch Megan Pym scored 13 of her career-high 19 points in the first half as one of three Lady Monarchs in double figures. Pym narrowly missed a double-double, hauling in nine boards on the afternoon. The fourth-year Lady Monarch shot a blistering 7-of-8 from the floor and hit both her free throw attempts along with capturing a game-high four steals. Tiffany Green and senior T.J. Jordan each poured in 16 points apiece. Green, like Pym, had a tremendous afternoon from the floor going 7-of-8 and also recorded two blocks and two steals. Jordan meanwhile grew closer to becoming the CAA's all-time three-point shooter. Jordan connected on 4-of-6 from the arc to bring her career three-point field goal total to 303, six shy of tying the league record. Old Dominion never trailed in the contest as Pym helped the Lady Monarchs to a commanding 43-21 lead in the opening half. The second half saw the Lady Monarchs outscore the Huskies, 40-25, with Old Dominion holding as much as a 42-point edge, tied for its largest lead of the season. The Lady Monarchs also held 42-point leads in wins against Delaware (76-37 - Jan. 27) and Delaware State (70-28 - Dec. 20). The Huskies were led by Shaleyse Smallwood, who came off the bench, to score 16 points. Lucia Pablos, who led Northeastern with 10 points in the first meeting with the Lady Monarchs, also came off the bench for 14 points. Kendra Walton was the lone starting Husky in double figures with 10 points along with a game-high seven rebounds.
NICE SHOOTING:
Old Dominion shot a season-best 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the floor in Thursday night's victory over UNC-Wilmington. It was the Lady Monarchs best outing from the floor since going .500 (27-of-54) at Georgia State nearly a year ago on January 7th, 2008.
THE "COMMITTEE":
If you hear head coach Wendy Larry refer to "the committee", she's referring to the younger members of the Lady Monarch squad - Mairi Buchan, Jasmine Parker, Sierra Little, Vicki Collier, Russia Voronina, and Margaret Harvey. "The committee" certainly came up big in ODU's 79-70 victory at UNC-Wilmington on January 8th. GETTING THE NOD:
Freshman Mairi Buchan recorded her first career start as the rookie center played in place of the injured Jessica Canady. Buchan ended the game with six points, five rebounds, and three assists. Buchan's start was the first the Lady Monarch rookie to see the starting line-up since the 2005-06 season. The last Lady Monarch freshman to receive a starting nod was current senior Jazzmin Walters, who had her first career start against Virginia Tech on Nov. 25, 2005 in her rookie campaign. Since a member of the starting five, Buchan has averaged 6.0 points and 3.0 rebounds.
ONE FOR THE ROAD:
The Lady Monarchs picked up its first road victory (non-neutral site) win of the year with a 79-70 victory at UNC-Wilmington on January 8th. Old Dominion is currently 1-3 on the road having suffered losses to #14/13 Texas, (44-78) #24/RV Michigan State (48-74), and Ole Miss (72-79).
LOTS OF WHISTLES:
There were whistles a plenty in the Lady Monarchs contest with UNC-Wilmington Thursday night. The 26 fouls called on the Lady Monarchs were the most this season surpassing the previous high of 25 against #15/16 Maryland on December 21st. Senior Tiffany Green, sophomore Sierra Little, and freshman Mairi Buchan spent the last 11 minutes of the first half with at least two fouls and with 4:48 remaining in the half, all available posts had two or more fouls. In all, the first half endured a combined 25 fouls. No Lady Monarch fouled out of the contest despite six Lady Monarchs having recorded two or more fouls at the half. Mairi Buchan, Jasmine Parker, Alena Voronina, and Sierra Little ended the game with four fouls each.
OTHER CAREER NOTABLES - THE NUMBER SIX:
Sophomore Shadasia Green set a new career mark in assists with six against the Seahawks Thursday night. Additionally senior Jen Nuzzo set a new career mark in rebounding hauling in six boards in the 79-70 victory at UNC-Wilmington.
CAA ROAD STREAK:
The Lady Monarchs have won five contests against the CAA away from the friendly confines of the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The streak began in the CAA regular season final last year against Hofstra and continued with three wins at the CAA Tournament at the Bob Carpenter Center. The streak continues this season as ODU has picked up a road win at UNC-Wilmington. The Lady Monarch's last CAA road loss was a 76-63 setback to James Madison at the JMU Convocation Center back on March 2, 2008.
