RICHMOND, Va. -- The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) mid-season swimming and diving report was released with several Monarchs and Lady Monarchs posting top 10 times in the conference. Freshman Olympian Arni Mar Arnason (Msfellsbaer, Iceland)has posted two of the best times in the CAA in the 100 and 200 breast with ODU record breaking times.
Four Monarchs are in the conference's top 10 in the 100 breast led by Arnason's finish of 55.57 in the event at the Davison Invitational. Arnason's time broke the ODU school record. Senior captain Johan Lundberg (Fjaras, Sweden) placed his name sixth on the list (58.23) and junior Kristian Ramkvist (Bjared, Sweden) seventh (58.26) with their times at the Davidson Invitational, and sophomore Josh Kinas (Reston, Va.) came in at eighth (58.56) in the meet with Drexel and William & Mary at James Madison. Ramkvist put his name in the ODU record books with the ninth fastest finish in history.
Arnason also led the way in the 200 breast (2:01.51), collecting that top time against Drexel and William & Mary, while Ramkvist ranks third in the conference (2:08.76) and Kinas at fifth (2:09.22), both posting their top times in the season opening meet with the Tribe. Arnason's time was once again another ODU record.
The Ramkvist brothers are among the Top 10 in the 100 back. Sophomore Mikael Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) registered sixth on the list (52.24), a time posted against William & Mary, and he is followed closely by junior Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) in seventh (52.25), a top finish registered at the Davidson Invitational. Mikael Ramkvist also placed his name among the top conference performers in the 200 back with the CAA's third fastest time performed against the Tribe in the 200 back (1:52.80).
The 200 IM also saw Kristian Ramkvist place his name on another list. Ramkvist saw him was to the CAA's fifth best time (1:55.15) thus far in 2008-09 while at the Davidson Invitational.
Four Monarchs saw top 10 times in the CAA in the 400 IM. Capturing the times all at the Davidson Invitational, Kristian Ramkvist led the way ranking sixth on the list with a time of 4:10.26, followed by senior Dan Gallagher (Rochester, N.Y.) in seventh (4:10.37) , junior Kevin Latimer (Newport News, Va.) in eighth (4:10.38), and freshman Bryan Russell (Prince George, Va.) in ninth (4:10.64).
A trio of Monarchs are also featured in the Top 10 in the 200 and 1000 freestyle. In the 200 free, sophomore Steven Loccisano's (Fredericksburg, Va.) performance against the field of the Davidson Invitational with a time of 1:42.70 places him fourth in the conference, with junior Chad Gangwer's (Va. Beach, Va.) time of 1:43.34 against Drexel and William & Mary putting him eighth in the CAA, and freshman Greg Bird (Northamptonshire, England) coming in at 10th with a finish of 1:43.81 versus the Davidson Invitational competition. The 1000 free saw sophomore Kris Hagg (Skovde, Sweden) come in with fifth top time in the conference thus far capturing a time of 9:55.27 and senior Dan Gallagher (Rochester, N.Y.) rank seventh with a 9:59.32, both recording the times against William & Mary. Hagg and Gallagher are one of seven competitors in the CAA to break the 10 minute mark in the 1000 free thus far in the 2008-09 season. Also placing in the top 10 in the 1000 was sophomore Chris Plummer (Augusta, Ga.) at number 10 with a finish of 10:05.36 against the Tribe.
Other top performances from the Monarchs included Bird placing his named among the top 10 conference performers in the 500 free with the 10th best time (4:41.38), Hagg placing seventh in the 1650 free (16:25.00), and Latimer in fifth (1:53.10) and Gallagher seventh (1:54.94) in the 200 fly.
In the relay's, the 400 free team consisting of Arnason, Loccisano, Mikael Ramkvist, Gangwer posted the conference's fifth fastest time (3:08.64), the 800 free team of Kristian Ramkvist, Hagg, Lccisano, and Gangwer captured the CAA's fourth faster time (6:56.53), while the 200 medley relay team of Ramkvist, Arnason, Eric Doordan (Burke, Va.), and Loccisano have the seventh fastest time (1:35.18) among conference competitors, and Ramkvist, Arnason, Doordan, and Gangwer with the second fastest time in the CAA in the 400 medley (3:25.80).
On the boards, sophomore David Skorupa (Richmond, Va.) has posted the 10th highest score among CAA divers on the 1-meter (263.65).
Freshman Olympian Erla Haraldsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland) second fastest time among the CAA swimmers in the 100 breast (1:03.24) at the Davidson Invitational and 200 breast (2:21.32) in the CAA Pod Meet with James Madison, Northeastern, Drexel, and William & Mary. Haraldsdottir's 100 breast time set a new ODU school record, while her 200 breast finish gave her the fourth best time in Lady Monarch history. Senior captain Jennifer Sargent (Chesterfield, Va.) is also among the conference's top finishers in the 200 breast, placing her name fifth (2:23.02) on the list with her time at the Davidson Invitational.
Haraldsdottir has also placed her name among the top times in the 200 IM after collecting a time of 2:06.84 in the CAA Pod Meet. Her time was the fifth fastest time in the ODU record books.
Sophomore April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.), who set 100 back record a season ago, is currently third in the CAA in 100 back times. She posted a time of 57.32 in the season opening meet with William & Mary, .70 seconds of her record setting mark, against . Barrientos is also tied for eighth for top times in the 200 back (2:07.21) set against the competition at the Davidson Invitational.
In women's relay action, the 800 free team of freshman Emma Forbes (Peekskill, N.Y.), junior Kelly North (Newport News, Va.), junior Elizaveta Mooiseva (Moscow, Russia), and freshman Maddie Stiles (Fairfax, Va.).
On the boards, senior Jasmine Moore (Yorktown, Va.) has the 10th best score on the 1 -meter (229.85) and ) and 3-meter (225.80).
