Andrew Malson is in his first season as special teams quality control coach at Old Dominion.
Malson joins the Monarchs after spending the 2019 season as a defensive assistant at Stony Brook. He worked with the defensive line last year with the Seawolves.
He spent the previous two seasons as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Fairleigh Dickinson. At FDU, he led the defense to a second place finish in the conference in rush defense and sacks, as his defense finished 14th nationally in sacks.
Prior to his time at FDU, he worked on the opposite side of the ball as the offensive coordinator for two years at Westminster College (Missouri). While at WC, his offense finished third in the conference in rush defense and third in total offense. This was his second stint at Westminster, as he joined the staff in 2010 coaching the linebackers and secondary.
Malson coached for three years at the United States Merchant Marines Academy, coaching a variety of positions, including cornerbacks, safeties and outside linebackers.
The year prior to USMMA, he was a graduate assistant at Western Michigan and worked with the defensive line.
Malson began his coaching career as a defensive assistant and assistant video coordinator at Missouri Western State.
Malson was a two-time all-conference center at Westminster and team captain as a senior. He graduated with a degree in physical education in 2008.
