The 2019 season will be Frank Wilson’s third working with Old Dominion where he continues to work with special teams and mentoring the high performing specialists at Old Dominion University. Wilson’s Specialists hold the records for most field goals made in a season, highest season field goal percentage and are on pace to hold several more kicking and scoring records.

The 2018 Old Dominion Special Teams units finished No. 18 in the country in total Special teams efficiency. Monarch’s special teams performers took home C-USA Player of the Week honors three times, the most of any Conference USA school. The Monarchs also finished in the Top 25 nationally in Kick Return Success Rate (5th), Punt Return Defense (16th), and Punt Efficiency (25th).  ODU finished in the Top 50, in six other special teams statistics as well.

During the 2017 season Wilson helped oversee the seventh ranked kick return unit, which featured Isaiah Harper the All-C-USA and C-USA Special Teams Player of the Year. Harper is just the fifth player in C-USA history to have three or more kickoffs returned for touchdowns in one season. Harper's 235 kickoff return yards at North Texas were the most by an FBS player in a single-game in 2017 season, while his 194 return yards against North Carolina was tied for the seventh-most.  He set the ODU single-season record for kickoff return touchdowns in a season and a career in 2017. ODU finished with the 18th ranked Kick Blocking unit. Darrel Brown became an All-CUSA punt returner and Long Snapper Reed Buce earned Honorable Mention all C-USA.
