Terry Rooney

Terry Rooney is in his second season as assistant coach at Old Dominion University. He came to the Monarchs staff after serving two years as an assistant coach at James Madison University. Terry is the Monarchs pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. COLLEGIATE BASEBALL ranked the Monarchs incoming recruiting class among the nation's top 30.

Rooney joined the JMU staff in 1998 as an assistant and was promoted to second assistant and recruiting coordinator in 1999. While at James Madison, both recruiting classes were ranked nationally by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL. Two JMU players he coached were top ten round selections in Aaron Sams and Blair Dehart, both of whom were not drafted out of high school. He coached one year (1996-97) at George Washington University and served as the Colonials pitching coach and assisted with all facets of the programs day-to-day operations.

Rooney coached the Waynesboro Generals of the NCAA sanctioned Shenandoah Valley League to the 1998 Championship. He also served as an assistant with Valley League Champion Staunton in 1996 and in 1997 was an assistant with the Cotuit team of the Cape Cod League. Rooney has been a clinician at several baseball camps, including the Best In Virginia Showcase and the Mid-Atlantic Baseball School.

As a player with the Radford University Highlanders, Rooney posted a career mark of 8-2 in a school record 81 appearances and an earned run average of 3.10. He also played one year at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia, posting a 4-2 record and a 1.50 ERA.

Rooney is a native of Fairfax, Va. He is a 1996 graduate of Radford University with a B.S. degree in social science.
