Sarasota, Fla. - Old Dominion women’s rowing concluded its season with a fifth place finish at the Big 12 Rowing Championship held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.

“I’m so incredibly proud of this team,” said ODU head coach Brian Conley. “We had a lot of struggles this year that they overcame and rose above. The 26 points the team earned this year are the most points we’ve ever achieved and that is a credit to the work they put in.”

The Monarchs competed in three races that took place at 9:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 10 a.m. The Silver and Blue opened the day with a sixth-place finish in a 1V4+ race with a final time of 7:58.358. UCF took first place with a finish time of 7:10.098 and Kansas finished 14 seconds behind with a time of 7:24.338.

Old Dominion’s 2V8+ boat finished in fourth with a time of 6:57.488 ahead of West Virginia (6:59.768) and Kansas State (7:03.748). UCF (6:31.848) grabbed another first-place finish followed by Kansas’ time of 6:42.588 in second.

“The seniors finished on a high note and have laid a good foundation for the team to continue to build upon,” said Conley. “Every boat raced amazingly and put ODU’s name in the minds of the other teams. I look forward to the future of the team as we continue what we started four years ago!”

UCF finished first in all five races to gain 81 points and earn back-to-back rowing championships. Kansas’ 61 points followed behind in second and Tulsa’s 53 points was good for third place. West Virginia (36), Old Dominion (26), and Kansas State (20) finished fourth through sixth, respectively.
