NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women’s soccer team has nine home games at the ODU Soccer Stadium, including games against Maryland and Virginia Tech, as ODU Head Coach Angie Hind announced the program’s 2025 schedule on Friday.
“We are genuinely excited about the schedule that we have built this fall and I feel it’s the strongest we have put together to date,” said ODU Head Coach Hind. “It’s so important that every year we are able to pitch ourselves against nationally recognized opponents as well as the best teams in the state. Our non conference slate sees us face top 20 opponents Georgetown and Virginia Tech as well as consistent CUSA champions, Liberty.”
The Monarchs will host its only exhibition game on Wednesday, August 6 when ECU heads to Norfolk.
“The non-conference schedule is rounded out against many of our great rivalry games against W&M, VCU, and this year we establish a new series against Maryland,” said Hind. “I really believe this strength of schedule will help prepare us as best as possible for this year's Sun Belt schedule.”
ODU opens the regular season in the nation’s capital against Georgetown on Thursday, August 14. The Monarchs will take on the Hoyas for the second time in the team’s history having only faced off in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. ODU’s Ashlynn Kulha opened the scoring in the 40th minute but GU’s Brianne Riley leveled the game 1-1 in the 73rd minute. The team’s went to overtime and the Hoyas found the winning goal from Natalie Means in the 100th minute to hold on for a 2-1 win.
A four-game home stand starts with William & Mary on Sunday, August 17 at 6 p.m. ODU defeated the Tribe 2-0 in Williamsburg last season thanks to two goals two-minutes apart. Brooke Edwards found the back of the net off an assist from Andrea Balcazar Algarin in the sixth minute, Rhea Kijowski played provider on the second goal to Algarin at the eighth minute mark and ODU kept a clean sheet thanks to Emily Bredek’s nine saves.
The Maryland Terrapins are slated to head to the ODU Soccer Stadium for the first time for a meeting with the Silver and Blue on Sunday, August 24 for a 6 p.m. kick. ODU last played the Terrapins 30 years ago in 1995. The Monarchs will seek to even the all-time series after suffering a 6-0 defeat at College Park.
The Monarchs will battle it out against the Flames of Liberty on Sunday, August 31 starting at 6 p.m. ODU is tied with LU in the all-time series 5-5-2. In the last three matches against the Flames, ODU has drawn twice and suffered one defeat.
ODU opens September and wraps up its run of home games against Virginia Tech, the Monarchs will square off with the Hokies on Thursday, September 4 for a 6 p.m. start. Old Dominion has not played the Hokies since drawing 0-0 in Blacksburg in 2023.
Old Dominion rounds out non-conference play on Sunday, September 7 when they head up Interstate 64 to match up with VCU in Richmond. ODU defeated the Rams 2-1 at the ODU Soccer Stadium last season after Kijowski opened the scoring in the 24th minute and Yuliia Khrystiuk found the goal to create separation in the 79th. VCU’s Kanna Matsuhisa scored the Ram’s lone goal in the 90th right before the final whistle.
The Monarchs open Sun Belt Conference play against App State on Saturday, September 13 at 6 p.m. in Norfolk. The sides last met on the last day of the regular season, ODU took down the Mountaineers 3-1 in Boone. Gry Boe Thrysoe hit the back of the net in the 35th minute and Kijowski scored shortly after halftime in the 47th to put ODU up 2-0. The Mountaineers found a goal in the 53rd minute in response but Grace Hillis put the game to bed in the 82nd minute.
The TowneBank Royal Rivalry matchup against JMU will be held at the ODU Soccer Stadium this year, the Monarchs and the Dukes will meet on Thursday, September 18 at 6 p.m. The last time the two sides met in Norfolk in 2023 the game played out to a scoreless draw. The Monarchs went on to defeat JMU in the Final of the Sun Belt Championship 2-1 thanks to Sydney Somers' winner in the 109th minute.
Old Dominion heads down to Myrtle Beach to meet Coastal Carolina on Sunday, September 21. The Monarchs and Chanticleers were both held to one goal a-piece last season for a draw and ODU leads the all-time series 3-1-1.
The Monarchs will get back on the road and travel to Hattiesburg to take on the Golden Eagles on Friday, September 26. The last time the two sides met was in 2023 and ODU dispatched USM 4-0 thanks to a brace by Ece Turkoglu and goals by Kijowski and Megan Watts. Old Dominion leads Southern Miss 5-1-1 in the all-time series.
ODU returns to Norfolk and hosts Troy on October 2 for a 6 p.m. kick. The two sides have not met since the 2022 season in the lone game where the two programs met. Troy had seven shots on goal but could not get the ball past Goalkeeper Bredek and a 39th minute goal from Miya Lennon was the decider in a 1-0 win for ODU.
The Monarchs head out on a three-game road trip against Marshall, wherenODU meets the Herd on Sunday, October 5. Old Dominion were held to a 0-0 draw last season by Marshall at the ODU Soccer Stadium. The Monarchs trail the all-time series 5-4-2 but have not lost to the Herd since 2019.
Game two on the road will see ODU head to Statesboro, Georgia for an October 10 matchup against the Eagles. Last season, The Monarchs came away with a 1-0 victory in Norfolk after Kijowski scored the lone goal of the game in the 14th minute and ODU’s defensive effort held Georgia Southern to five total shots.
To finish off the 12 days of travel the Monarchs head further south to meet the Ragin’ Cajuns from Louisiana on October 17. The all-time series is tied 1-1. Old Dominion defeated Louisiana in the first matchup in 2022, 1-0 in Lafayette but dropped a 1-0 loss the next year in Norfolk.
ODU returns home to Norfolk and the first piece of business upon arriving is preparing for a matchup against Arkansas State, the Red Wolves meet the Monarchs on Friday, October 24 at 6 p.m. Old Dominion met A-State twice in 2022, losing to them 1-0 and then defeating the Red Wolves 1-0 in the First Round of the Sun Belt Championships en-route to a 4-3 victory against JMU in the final.
Old Dominion women’s soccer wraps up Sun Belt Conference play and have their Senior Night against the Georgia State Panthers on Wednesday, October 29. ODU met GSU last season in Atlanta and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Kijowski opened the scoring in the 38th minute before an equalizer from the Panthers' Aaliyah Faddoul leveled the tie. Georgia State’s Reese Gordon put the home team ahead in the 89th but the Monarchs equalized 35 seconds later right at the 90th from Kijowski.
“In my opinion the East Division of our conference is the most competitive and I anticipate this again this fall as so many teams grow stronger each year,” said Hind. “We are so excited for this fall and I know our team will be ready for the challenge ahead.”
