ORLANDO, Fla. – Old Dominion University men’s swimmer Zachary Redding earned a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly to lead the Monarchs on the second day of the Atlantic Sun Championships, while Sophia Kapla led the way for the women’s squad at the Sun Belt Championships on Thursday night.
In the opening event Thursday night at the Sun Belt Championships, Kapla led off the Monarchs with an 11thplace finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:01.51.
Kristilynn Mosley led a trio of Monarchs in the 200 IM by placing 13th with a time of 2:06.36 and was closely followed by Linnea Kallebo in 14th in 2:07.56 and Kaylee Eggers in 16th with a time of 2:08.24.
In the 50 free, Mary Dunworth won the B Final to finish in ninth with a time of 23.64, while Emma Seidel came in 13th in 23.82 and Lauren Masters finished 14th in 12.97.
At the ASUN Championships, Redding earned a fourth-place position in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.37, while Dawson Truong came in 12th with a time of 48.87.
In the 400 IM, Cooper Beebe finished in 14th with a time of 4:12.12, while Zane Nall finished in 15th in 4:09.40 and Xander Schreck 16th with a time of 4:11.12.
Ben Schattenberg led the Monarchs in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.00. Ryan Lincicum finished in 10th in 1:40.21, Grey Bremer took 11th in 1:40.59 and Jamie Cleaver 15th in 1:41.32.
The Monarchs men’s squad continues in third place after day two while the women’s team is in fourth place. Both meets continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. for the prelims and 6 p.m. for the finals.
