MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Gustaf Hansson set an Old Dominion swimming record and Zach Redding won a pair of events to lead the Monarchs on the second night of the WVU Invite on Thursday night at West Virginia.
Hansson finished third in the 100 backstroke and swam to a school record time of 47.73, just .67 off the winning time by Navy’s Ben Irwin.
Redding earned his first win of the night in the 100 butterfly in a time of 47.12, outlasting Irwin.
Redding stood atop the podium again in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:36.64, topping Navy’s Andrew Everet by nearly a second. Grey Bremer placed 12th with a time of 1:40.13 and Ryan Lincicum took 14th in 1:40.30.
The Monarchs opened the night with a 10th place finish in the women’s 200 medley relay as the team of Linnea Kallebo, Bridget Morris Larkin, Kiersten Donnelly and Lauren Masters notched a time of 1:46.32.
The men’s 200 medley relay team of Hansson, Bryce Mortimer, August Eriksson and Redding came in fourth with a time of 1:29.72.
In the women’s 100 butterfly, Donnelly placed 15th with a tine of 56.79.
Kristi Mosley finished 15th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.69 while Kristina Zachary, Kallebo and Anna Bearor finished 21st, 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
In the men’s 400 IM, Cooper Beebe took 19th in 4:07.36 as Drew Vanden Heuvel, Zane Nall and Xander Schreck went 22nd, 23rd and 24th.
Jadyn Whitt led ODU in the 100 breaststroke with a 15th place finish with a time of 1:05.94. Morris Larkin finished in 19th while Marian Cheramy took 20th and Zachary finished 23rd.
Bryce Mortimer notched another top-five finish for the Monarchs with a fourth place spot in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.55. Eriksson followed in sixth with a time of 54.68 and Dawson Truong came in 10th in 55.22. Michael Marotta finished 18th, Toni Sallaku 19th, Marcus Schwartz 22nd and Tristen Wells 23rd.
Donnelly added a 14th position in the 100 backstroke in 57.43 while Kallebo took 18th in 57.60 and Emma Seidel finished 23rd in 58.74.
Hansson set the ODU school record in the 100 backstroke but Mortimer also won the B-Final with a time of 49.62, which would have place fourth in the A-Final. Jordan Davis won the C-Final with a time of 50.71.
The final event of the night was the 800 free relay and the team of Eriksson, Bremer, Lincicum and Redding took third in 6:41.13.
