NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's golf team begins its spring season this Saturday as the Monarchs travel to Orlando, Florida to play in the UCF Challenge. The Knights are hosting their tournament at Eagle Creek Golf Club, which features a par of 72 and a total yardage of 6,367.
The UCF Challenge was originally scheduled to start on Sunday, but due to inclement weather expected in the area, the opening round has been moved up to a 12 p.m. shotgun start on Saturday. Play will then resume with the second and third rounds on Monday and Tuesday with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts on both days.
The 18-team field will also include lineups from Central Arkansas, College of Charleston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kent State, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Texas, Northwestern, Penn State, Texas Tech, UNCW and Virginia Tech, plus five individuals.
ODU's lineup will feature Lucia Gonzalez, Leiu Yuenyong, Klara Wildhaber, Carley Rudolf and Sarah Mardani. Saturday's first round will see ODU teeing off from the 16th and 17th holes and paired with Central Arkansas and UNCW. The Monarchs competed in four tournaments during the fall, with the team's best finish at the Evie Odom Invitational, where they placed fifth. Puneet Bajwa claimed runner-up honors after carding a five-under par 205. Her performance led to her being named the Sun Belt Golfer of the Week on Oct. 12.
