GREENVILLE, N.C. – Jakob Henriksson and Jacob Gunther both finished under par to lead the Old Dominion men's golf team at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic, hosted by East Carolina on Monday and Tuesday.

The Stockholm, Sweden natives both turned in career performances at the Classic. Henriksson shot under par in all three rounds and finished tied for seventh with a seven-under par 209. He got off to a great start with a four-under 68 on Monday morning, then followed with a round of 71 that afternoon and capped off the tournament with a 70 on Tuesday. It marks his best 54-hole total in relation to par.

Gunther was four strokes back from Henriksson and tied for 13th at three-under 213, his best score versus par in his time at ODU. The junior turned in his first sub-70 round as a Monarch with a three-under 69 in the first round. He followed with a 73 in round two and a 71 in round three.

As a team, the Monarchs combined for a two-under par 862, good for a seventh-place finish. Florida Atlantic won the team title with a 30-under 834, tournament host ECU was second with a 23-under 841, and Radford placed third at 22-under 842. ECU's Lucas Augustsson posted a 15-under 201 to claim medalist honors, and FAU's Max Sturdza was the runner up with a 12-under 204.

"Not the finish we were expecting, but still a lot more positives than negatives," said associate head coach Barry Marple. "I was particularly proud of Henriksson and Gunther for their play. We're looking forward to getting ready for our next event."

Jakob Chicoyne went five-over and tied for 51st with a three-round total of 221, and Kazuki Yamauchi was close behind him and tied for 56th at 223 (+7). Yamauchi had ODU's other sub-70 round, a 69 for his second trip around the course. Philip Minnehan played as an individual and ended up tied for 64th with a 226 and Aleksander Bjorge rounded out the Monarch lineup, tying for 78th at 231.

Minnehan recorded the lone eagle for the Monarchs, converting his third shot on the par-5 16th hole in the opening round. Henriksson made a team-high 13 birdies, Gunther was next with 12, and Yamauchi led ODU with 38 made putts for par.

The Monarchs will have two weeks to prepare for the Phoenix Invitational, hosted by Elon on Oct. 16-17 at Alamance Country Club.
