Monarchs Open Play at Elon's Phoenix Invitational on Monday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's golf team resumes its fall schedule this Monday and Tuesday as the Monarchs head to Burlington, North Carolina to play in the Eighth Annual Phoenix Invitational.

Elon is hosting the two-day tournament at Alamance Country Club, which features a par of 71 and is 6,871 total yards. The 15-team field will play 36 holes of continuous play on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will have tee times from the first and 10th holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. Fans can follow along with live stats provided by GolfStat.

Other teams competing in the Invitational include App State, Dartmouth, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, George Washington, North Carolina A&T, Longwood, Ohio, Presbyterian, Queens, Radford, Temple and Western Carolina. NC State and UNCG will also have individuals competing.

This week will be the second tournament hosted by Elon that ODU will have played in within the past year. Elon co-hosted the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate with East Carolina on March 31-April 2 last season.

The Phoenix Invitational marks ODU's third tournament this fall. The Monarchs finished fifth at the River Run Collegiate, hosted by Davidson on Sept. 11-12, and are coming off a seventh-place finish at East Carolina's Ironwood Classic on Oct. 2-3.

Jakob Henriksson has turned in the team's best score in relation to par, tying for seventh at ECU's tournament with a seven-under par 209. Jacob Gunther carded a three-under 213 in that event to tie for 13th, and Jakob Chicoyne shot a one-under 209 to tie for 8th at Davidson's Collegiate.
