NORFOLK, VA. – The Old Dominion Women's Lacrosse team opens their 2023 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they take on Elon starting at noon.  
  
ODU head coach Theresa Walton will make her Monarch debut as head coach in her first season in charge of the program. Walton came to ODU after starting the program at Youngstown State and leading the Penguins for two years. Walton led YSU to a share of the MAC regular season championship last season. The Monarchs finished 5-12 last season but return an experienced group. 
  
Lilly Siskind was named preseason American Athletic All Conference. Siskind led ODU with 57 goals, 20 assists and 77 points last season. All three of those were single season highs for her. Maddie Mullenbach was second behind Siskind in points (34) and goals (26). 
  
Defensively for the Monarchs they return Katie McGrain and Maria Rekus who combined for 32 starts last year. In the midfield Caroline Shaefer made 16 starts, she caused 16 turnovers, had 24 groundballs and won 68 draw controls.  
  
Returning in goal for ODU is Jenna Peccia, she started all 17 games last season making 180 saves, which ranked 11th in the country. 
  
Elon finished 5-11 last season. Returning for Elon offensively is Hannah McCarthy, who scored 30 goals and had 32 points last season.  
  
The matchup between the Monarchs and the Phoenix is the first ever meeting between the two schools.  
  
The Monarchs will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 15 when they travel to Richmond to take on VCU at 1 pm.
