CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Old Dominion men's basketball team enters a loaded Shriners Children's Charleston Classic at TD Arena with a Thursday afternoon contest against the Virginia Tech Hokies. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be seen on ESPN2 with Derek Jones and Perry Clark on the call.
Ted Alexander and Dave Twardzik will have the call on ESPNRadio 94.1 FM with the Toyota Pre-game show set for 1:30 p.m.
The tournament field consists of Furman, Penn State, Colorado State, South Carolina, Davidson and College of Charleston.
The Series
This will be the 22nd meeting between the teams as NCAA Division I members with Virginia Tech leading the all-time series 13-8. Old Dominion won the last meeting 72-69 in the 2007-08 season at Chartway Arena. Thursday will be the fourth meeting at a neutral site as the Hokies won two of the previous three.
About ODU
The Monarchs are coming off a 72-58 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Monday night. Tyreek Scott-Grayson paced four in double figures with 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Ben Stanley came off the bench with 14 points, Chaunce Jenkins added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Dericko Williams chipped in with 11 points and seven boards.
Stanley leads the team in scoring at 17.3 ppg, while Scott-Grayson is at 11 ppg and 8.0 rpg and Mekhi Long chips in 10.3 ppg and a team-best 9.3 rpg. ODU his hitting .422 from the field, .273 from 3-point range and .654 from the foul line. The Monarchs are out-rebounding opponents by over 11.5 rpg (44.3-32.7).
About Virginia Tech
The Hokies enter with a 3-0 mark after opening the season with wins over Delaware State (95-57), Lehigh (78-52) and William & Mary (94-77) all at home.
Sean Pedulla leads them in scoring at 20 points per game, Grant Basile is next at 18 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, Darius Maddox adds 12 points per game and Hunter Cattoor chips in 11.3 points per game. Justyn Mutts leads the team on the boards at 7.5 per game, while Pedulla dishes almost five assists per game.
Monarchs In Charleston Classic
This is the second time the Monarchs have appeared in the Charleston Classic after playing in 2017. ODU lost to eventual champion Temple (76-65) but defeated Indiana State (62-44) and Dayton (75-67) for fifth place.

Old Dominion will face either Furman or Penn State on Friday in the second round. A win over Virginia Tech will have ODU in a noon game, while a loss will put them at 2 p.m. or 2:30 p.m.
