DULUTH, Ga. – A three-over par 291 for the final round helped the Old Dominion men's golf finish tied for eighth place on Tuesday at the Georgia State Invitational. The Panthers hosted the Invitational at Berkeley Hill Country Club in Duluth, Georgia.

"We had a good round today with four players playing very well," said head coach Murray Rudisill. "We certainly were not pleased with our first two rounds, and we need to start stronger in the tournaments. With such a young squad, we're still learning how to compete and feeling comfortable up near the lead. We have two and a half weeks of hard work and practice before we complete our fall season with our tournament that we host in the Outer Banks of North Carolina."

The Monarchs finished even with North Alabama at 23-over par 887. Tennessee Tech and James Madison both recorded three-over par 867s to finish tied for first, and the Golden Eagles edged the Dukes in a team playoff to secure the victory. Lipscomb rounded out the top three with a 54-hole total of 868 (+4).

Tennessee Tech's Jackson Skeen was the tournament champion with an eight-under 208 and Wright State's Tyler Goecke came in two strokes behind Skeen to claim runner-up honors.

Jakob Chicoyne had his second Top-10 finish of the fall as he tied for eighth with a one-over par 217. The junior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada started off his week with a one-under 71 and a three-over 75 for his first two rounds on Monday. He then shot another round of 71 on Tuesday to pace the Monarchs.

Jacob Gunther had his best round of the Invitational on Tuesday. With three birdies on the front nine and another two on the back nine, his two-under 70 helped him tie for 18th with a final score of 220 (+4). Philip Minnehan was next for ODU, tying for 30th at 223 (+7). Kazuki Yamauchi carded a 232 (+16) to tie for 63rd and Kaijun Ma placed 74th with a final tally of 236 (+20).

Gunther ended up tied for second in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.50. Minnehan recorded the lone eagle for the Monarchs, putting in his third shot on the par-5 third hole during his second trip around the course. Chicoyne and Gunther led the team with 10 birdies each and Yamauchi made a team-best 34 putts for par.

The Monarchs conclude their fall season in two weeks when the team hosts the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Oct. 22-25 at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, North Carolina.
