NORFOLK, Va. – Lilly Siskind and Haley O'Connor scored four goals apiece to lead a high-powered Old Dominion lacrosse attack to a 20-11 win over Radford on Saturday afternoon.
"We had a great win today against a talented Radford team. Our team from the beginning was set on winning this game and staying focused and up the entire 60 minutes," ODU head coach Heather Holt said. "I am very proud of our athletes. It was a total team effort today."
Siskind had four assists to go along with her four goals for eight points, while Maddie Mullenbach had three goals and two assists.
ODU jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Caroline Shaefer, Molly May and Corrinne Stratton. Radford cut the lead to 3-2 before Siskind scored three of the next four goals to give the Monarchs a 6-3 lead. Moira Olexa scored back-to-back goals and O'Connor added a tally for a 9-3 ODU lead. Mullenbach and Siskind added goals for the Monarchs, sandwiched around a pair of Radford goals and ODU led 12-5 at halftime.
ODU pushed the lead to 14-5 with goals from Jeslyn Krebs and O'Connor, but Radford cut the lead to 14-7 with back-to-back goals. The Monarchs stormed back with four-straight goals to invoke the mercy rule at 18-8 and O'Connor added another for a 19-8 ODU advantage.
The Highlanders scored three-straight to cut into the lead, but Maria Rekus put the exclamation point on the win with a breakaway goal to make the final score 20-11.
Olexa scored twice and had an assist for ODU, while May had a goal and an assist.
River Rupert had a hat trick to lead the Highlanders. Olivia Hunter made 10 saves in goal in the loss.
Jenna Peccia notched 15 saves and earned the win in goal for ODU.
The Monarchs are back in action on Wednesday at William & Mary for a 6 p.m. contest.
