Men's Basketball Hosts UAB For Sunday Matinee

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's basketball team returns to the home floor of Chartway Arena for a Super Bowl Sunday matchup with the UAB Blazers at 2 p.m.  This game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
 
ODU (9-15, 4-7) enters the game after dropping a 63-48 decision on Thursday night at Middle Tennessee.  Austin Trice had his eighth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Monarchs. 
 
C.J. Keyser leads the team in scoring averaging 14.5 points per game, while Trice follows him at 12.6 points per game and leads in rebounding at 8.5 per contest.  Joining those two in double figures is Kalu Ezikpe at 11.2 points per game and is third in rebounding at 6.6 per game. 
 
Trice leads Conference USA in rebound average in conference games at 12.06 and is one of two players in Conference USA averaging a double-double in conference matchups.  He is 34th nationally in double-doubles (8) and 45th nationally in rebounds per game (8.5).
 
The Monarchs are averaging 65.8 points and allowing 67.3.  From the field, ODU is hitting .432 while opponents are hitting at a .426 clip.  Behind the arc, ODU is hitting .298 while allowing opponents a .356 clip.  They're outrebounding opponents by over three rebounds per game (36.7 to 33.6).
 
UAB is one game out of the lead in the West Division and enters with a 19-5 record overall and 9-2 in conference play.  Jordan Walker is second in scoring in the conference at 19.7 ppg, while also third in assists at 4.7 apg.  Trey Jemison is fifth in rebounds at 7.5 rpg in the conference, with teammate KJ Buffen tenth at 6.5 rpg.
 
The Blazers lead Conference USA in scoring (81.4 ppg), scoring margin (+16.96 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.402) and second in scoring defense (64.4 ppg).
 
In the all-time series, UAB leads 23-15 with ODU winning the last meeting 65-58 on Feb. 20, 2021 in Birmingham, Ala.
 
The Monarchs hit the road again next week starting with a Thursday night matchup at Marshall before heading to Western Kentucky on Saturday night.
