NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion baseball team dropped its opening series of the 2019 season, falling to High Point, 7-5, in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Complex.
High Point (2-1) broke a 5-5 tie with two runs in the eighth inning.
Offensively for Old Dominion (1-2), Kyle Battle (3-5, R, RBI), Matt Burch (2-4, R, RBI) and Matt Schwarz (2-4, 2 RBI, SB) combined for seven of ODU's 10 hits.
Vinnie Pasquantino (1-4, RBI) also drove in a run.
On the mound, freshman righty Matt Busher (3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) was the tough-luck loser in his collegiate debut. Busher came on in replace of starter Ryne Moore (4 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K).
Norfolk State transfer Michael Parmentier (0.1 IP, 1 H 0 R, 1 K) and freshman Aaron Holiday (0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R) also made their ODU debuts.
Up next, the Monarchs host Binghamton for a three-game set next weekend at The Bud. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
