NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 20 Old Dominion (5-2-1, 3-0-0 C-USA) men’s soccer team shutout South Carolina (2-5-0, 0-2-0 C-USA) 1-0 on Sunday at home. The Monarchs remain undefeated in C-USA action.
In just the third minute, rookie Daniel Corona scored his first collegiate goal off a Niko Klosterhalfen pass to put the Monarchs up early in the match and close out scoring.
"It was a hard-fought game, not a lot of chances from either side. We scored early and jumped on them a little bit." said head coach Alan Dawson.
In the second half, play was back and forth. The Gamecocks tallied both of their shots in the second half of play but ODU notched four.
ODU outshot the Gamecocks, 7-2 on their home pitch, with shots from Hans Kroschwitz, Deniz Dogan, Ryan McLaughlin, James Ellis and Luke Campbell.
Mertcan Akar collected his third shutout of the season with one save over the Gamecocks.
