BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech scored two runs in the ninth and one in the tenth to pull out a 6-5 victory over Old Dominion in 10 innings on Wednesday night at English Field in Blacksburg.
10 different Monarchs, including all nine starters, had a hit for Old Dominion (11-24), who led 5-3 entering the ninth. However, Virginia Tech (16-21) scored two runs on a wild pitch and sac fly in the bottom of the ninth to force extras. Luke Horanski then walked it off for the Hokies with an RBI single in the tenth.
Kyle Battle (2-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R) and Erik Stock (2-5, RBI) were the lone Monarchs with multiple hits. Will Morgan (1-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R) was also productive out of the 3-hole.
On the mound, starter Jason Hartline (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K) threw three shutout innings to open the game. Fellow true freshman Hunter Gregory (2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K) was strong out of the bullpen and was in line to get the victory. Corey Klak (0.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R) received the loss.
ODU is now 3-4 against schools from Virginia this season and 3-5 in midweek games.
