WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Culver Lamb hit a go-ahead two-out grand slam in the third inning and the Monarch bullpen threw six innings of one-hit ball to lead Old Dominion to an 11-6 victory at William & Mary on Wednesday evening at Plumeri Park.

With the win, ODU (20-5) improves to 6-1 in midweek games this season and marks the eighth that the Monarchs have scored 10 or more runs.

After William & Mary (14-11) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead through two innings, Nick Walker put ODU on the scoreboard with an RBI double. Lamb's two-out grand slam to left field then provided the Monarchs with a 5-2 advantage, a lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the game.

The Tribe twice cut the lead to one run, after putting up two runs in both the third and seventh innings. After a no-doubt Walker home run to left gave ODU a 7-4 lead in the top of the seventh, William & Mary plated two unearned runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to 7-6. However, ODU responded with two insurance runs in the eighth off of RBIs from defensive replacements Bryce Windham and Kyle Battle.

Cory Alexander II provided the Monarchs with two additional insurance runs with a two-out two-RBI single in the ninth. After Craig Lopez worked out of a jam in the seventh and then posted a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth, Corey Klak came in to toss a shutout ninth.

Overall, the Monarch bullpen, which also included Jim Wilkerson, Morgan Maguire and Michael Blanchard, combined to throw six innings, scattering a hit and two walks, while allowing two unearned runs. Maguire, who threw 2.1 innings, earned the win.

At the plate, Walker finished the game 2-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBIs and Lamb went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Freshman catcher Devon Adams had a solid evening at of the nine-hole, reaching base three times with a hit and two walks, while scoring two runs.

The Monarchs return to The Bud to host Charlotte for a three-game conference series this weekend.
