SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Old Dominion had its nine-game winning streak snapped by UTSA on Sunday, as the Roadrunners scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie and defeat the Monarchs at Roadrunner Field.

Despite the loss, Old Dominion (19-5, 5-1 C-USA) won the series, 2-1, and is now tied with both Southern Miss and Florida Atlantic atop the Conference USA standings.

The Monarchs scored first for the first time in the series, as a two-RBI single from Culver Lamb gave ODU the early lead. ODU extended the lead to 5-1 in the top of the second, after an RBI groundout by Vinnie Pasquantino and a two-RBI double by Zach Rutherford.

However, UTSA (11-11, 2-4 C-USA) evened the game at 5-5 after three innings, thanks to a pair of two-run home runs in both the second and third frames.

The game remained scoreless for the next four innings, before a Bryan Arias home run off the top of the left-center wall broke the tie game and gave UTSA a 6-5 lead. The Roadrunners would add an insurance later in the inning and winning pitcher Chris Muller, who threw 7.2 innings of shutout relief, retired the Monarchs in order in the ninth to close out the game.

ODU's starting pitcher John Wilson went 4.1 innings, allowing five earned on seven hits, while striking out tw, and Morgan Maguire provided the Monarchs with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Michael Blanchard earned the loss, allowing the two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Up next, the Monarchs remain on the road for a midweek game at William & Mary on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
