NORFOLK, Va. -- Shaun Wood's walkoff grand slam in game one headlined Old Dominion's doubleheader split with West Virginia on Friday at the Bud Metheny Complex. ODU (10-4) won game one, 8-4, but fell to the Mountaineers (8-6), 3-1, in game two.

In Game 1, Wood, a West Virginia transfer, belted a two-out pitch over the right field wall to cap off a five-run ninth for the Monarchs. It was Wood's first home run at ODU and the team's second walkoff win this season.  Watch Wood's walkoff grand slam here

After three scoreless innings to begin the game, West Virginia scored three runs in the fourth to take the early lead. ODU answered in the sixth, as three consecutive hits ignited a three-run inning to tie the game at 3-3.

The next frame, a two-out RBI single by Marques Inman put the Mountaineers back on top in the top of the seventh. WVU maintained that lead until the Monarchs' five-run ninth. ODU started the rally by loading the bases and then Zach Rutherford drew a hit by pitch to tie the game at 4-4. Wood then connected for the grand slam in the next at bat.

Culver Lamb earned the win on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings of shutout relief. At the plate, Rutherford, Nick Walker and Vinnie Pasquantino all recorded multi-hit games and Rutherford also drove in a pair of runs.

Game 2 featured a pitcher's duel between Adam Bainbridge and WVU's Michael Grove. Bainbridge, who received his first loss of the seaosn, allowed just one earned run in 5.2 innings of work. The senior lefty struck out five and walked none, but Grove's five innings of no-hit baseball propelled the Moutaineers to the close victory.

Out of the the bullpen for ODU, Morgan Maguire pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing zero earned runs and just two hits. Offensively, a Rutherford double and a Turner Bishop RBI single were the only hits for ODU in game two.

The Monarchs and Mountaineers will settle the series tomorrow at 3 p.m. Freshman John Wilson is slated to start for ODU against Conner Dotson.
