COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Old Dominion men’s tennis team (7-2) fell to South Carolina (5-1) by a 4-1 score on Friday afternoon. Javier Jover Maestre claimed ODU’s only point with a straight set victory over Andrew Schafer (6-3, 6-1).
“We had our backs against the wall all day today,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “I'm very proud how we never gave up and kept fighting. We put ourselves in the position to win, but at the end it was too much to overcome. The bottom line is that you can't fall behind like this against a quality team like South Carolina. I'm excited to see how we bounce back against Clemson. It's another great opportunity for us in a tough environment and if we keep battling like today we will have a good chance to bounce back.”
Old Dominion will be back in action at Clemson on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
