RALEIGH, N.C. – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team (1-0) won doubles then swept singles No. 1-3 to claim a 6-1 victory in the 2017 season opener at NC State (0-1) on Friday night at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, where head coach Dominik Mueller made his ODU debut. Old Dominion clinched the win at 4-1, but played out the remaining singles matches. Both No. 24 Adam Moundir and Michael Weindl took down nationally ranked opponents.
The Monarchs jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles points, as Adam Moundir/Jacob Nicolussi won 6-2 on Court No. 1 and Javier Jover Maestre/Michael Weindl also won 6-2 on Court No. 3.
Jacob Nicolussi gave Old Dominion a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles. The No. 24 ranked player in the country extended ODU’s lead to 3-0 when Adam Moundir won 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 over No. 37 Nick Horton.
Michael Weindl clinched the match for the Monarchs after getting the better of No. 103 Alexis Galarneau 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
Javier Jover Maestre (4-6, 7-6, 6-0) and Justin Herrera (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) also picked up singles wins for ODU to ultimately give the Monarchs a 6-1 victory on Friday night in Raleigh.

Old Dominion will be right back in action as they welcome Richmond at 11 a.m. and Howard at 4:00 p.m. to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 15th. Admission is free to the public for all home ODU Tennis matches.
