Spring Football Practice: Day 11 Recap

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football completed its 11th practice of the spring and final workout before the spring game this Saturday.

The Monarchs worked out for about an hour and 45 minutes, getting several individual sessions, team, 7-on-7 and special teams work.

Early in the team sessions the defense produced sacks from Rashaad Coward and Bunmi Rotimi and another from Tim Ward. 

The offense came back with a 70-yard touchdown run from Ray Lawry and first down plays from a Brandon Simmons 20-yard run and a Blake LaRussa 20-yard pass to Joey Verhaegh sandwiched around a sack for Scott Wiggins.

In a red zone team period, Shuler Bentley fired a 20-yard touchdown pass to Travis Fulgham while LaRussa tossed a 20-yarder to Isaiah Harper while Coward added a sack for the defense.

In the final team period of practice LaRussa completed a screen pass to Malik Fuller that he took for a 60-yard touchdown.

In field goal drills, Chris Kirtley drilled a long kick of 50-yards.

The spring game is on Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m. The Monarchs will split into two teams and play a four quarter game, with eight minute quarters.

The game is free and open to the public.
