ODUSports.com takes a look back at Old Dominion's victory against Norfolk State.

  • The game featured two delays totaling an hour and a half due to lightning in the area. The game started at 7:23 p.m. and at halftime there was another delay of an hour and 13 minutes.
  • Ray Lawry is the only player in the country to produce 200 yard rushing games to start the season. He leads the country with 438 yards and is tied for the lead with six touchdowns. He rushed a school record 31 times for 215 yards and a pair of touchdowns on Saturday.
  • True freshman running back Kesean Strong rushed 12 times for 36 yards and a touchdown. It was the first time he carried the ball this season.
  • Vincent Lowe led the receiving crew with four catches for 41 yards including a team-best 25-yard reception.
  • Aaron Young made a game-high seven tackles.
  • Oshane Ximines recorded a sack in a second-straight game and had 1.5 tackles for loss.
  • It was the second time in school history that ODU has not allowed an offensive opponent to score a touchdown. Norfolk State's touchdown came on a blocked punt. Last year's 17-3 win over Eastern Michigan was the first such outcome.

BIG MOMENTS
There were many big moments in Saturday's win but here are a few of the biggest:

Following NSU's blocked punt that put the Spartans on top 10-7, the ODU offense went three and out. In an important series, the ODU defense stood tall, forcing their own three and out on the Spartans.  ODU's next possession, Ray Lawry gave ODU a lead they would never relinquish with a one-yard TD run.

After the long halftime delay, the ODU defense picked up where it left off, giving ODU the ball back. The Monarchs drove to the NSU seven, then gave the ball on consecutive plays to Kesean Strong - for the first time in his career. The second carry was a two-yard run and a 21-10 ODU lead.

Early in the fourth quarter ODU kicked a field goal to make it a 24-10 game. NSU's Greg Hankerson completed a 51 yard pass to Qunita Funderburg. Justice Davila caught Funderburk from the other side of the field to knock him out at the two. The next play, Kohl Adams-Hurd forced a fumble that Marvin Branch recovered.

Backed up at their own two, Zach Pascal carried 18 yards on the first play of the drive and NSU never got the ball back.
