Swimming and Diving Celebrates Senior Day in Loss to William and Mary

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University men's and women's swimming and diving dropped their regular season finale today against William and Mary at the JC Scrap Chandler Pool.  The Lady Monarchs fell short 167-121 while the men lost 328-254.

Yesim Giresunlu won the first event of the day for the Lady Monarchs with a win in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:23.17.  She added her second win of the day in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.17.

Savannah Bowers added a second place while Lucia Delcourt finished behind her in third in the 200 freestyle.  Bowers added another second place finish in the 400 IM.

Colleen VandePoel followed with a second place in the 100 backstroke.

Sophomore Julia Vido earned the Lady Monarchs' second victory of the day with a triumph in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:04.72.  Vido added her second win of the day with a win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.83.

In the 200 backstroke, freshman Lucia Delcourt earned second place with a time 2:04.53.

Senior Rachel Eckert won the 1-meter dive with a score of 286.57 and also won the 3-meter with a score of 295.35.

In the opening event for the men, Bernardo Figueiredo grabbed a second place spot in the 1000 freestyle.

Junior Vitor Sa added a second place in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.18.

Senior Edward Hubert picked up the first ODU victory of the day with a time of 56.27 in the 100 breaststroke.

Reed Mathews followed with a win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:50.54.

Sa added another ODU win, this one in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.26, just .24 ahead of second place.

Anton Mikaelsson added a second place finish in the 200 backstroke while Hubert earned his second win of the day, this time in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.89.

Mathews won his second event of the day in the 100 fly with a time of 49.82, edging out W&M's Justin Barden and Sa by less than a second.

Cory Moreno won both the 1 and 3-meter dives for the Monarchs.

Next up for the Monarchs is the Conference USA Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. from Feb. 17-21.
