CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Old Dominion University women's rowing team finished in first place and won gold in both the Women's Club 4+ and College & Club Novice 8+ events at the Head of the Hooch on Saturday.

ODU finished the day with two first place finishes, a fifth place finish in the Women's Championship 8+ and a 12th place finish in a tightly packed Championship 4+ event that featured over 31 boats.

In the College and Club Novice 8+ event, which ODU won for the second straight year, coxswain Diana Howat led ODU to a first place finish with Erin O'Connell at stroke, Kennedy Stafford at 7, Kara Stephan at 6, Carlie Cohen at 5, Sabrina Paulsen at 4, Shannon La Sala at 3, Raven Woody at 2 and Emily Hughes at bow. Old Dominion's freshmen won the race with a time of 16:53.6, which was 17 seconds faster than the next boat. ODU started the race at 3:38 p.m. and competed against 47 other boats.

The Lady Monarchs also finished first in the Women's Club 4+ event, which featured 35 other boats. ODU was led by coxswain Nicole Sicurella, Colleen Rennie at stroke, Jenna Sterling at 3, Jessica Donlan at 2 and Chelsea Trice at bow. ODU won by more than 25 seconds with a time of 18:40.0. 

ODU finished the Women's Championship 8+ event in fifth place, which began at 12:25 p.m. and competed against 28 other boats. ODU was led by coxswain Lydia Cleveland, Paige Madison at stroke, Raven Howser at 7, Kara Stephan at 6, Kennedy Stafford at 5, Erin O'Connell at 4, Kelsea Shiner at 3, Missy Fruetel at 2 and Keira Flanagan at bow. ODU finished with a time of 16:53.6.

Old Dominion competed in the Championship 4+ event and finished 12th out of 31 competing boats with a time of 18:30.9. Coxswain for ODU was Lydia Cleveland with Raven Howser at stroke, Paige Madison at 3, Missy Fruetel at 2 and Keira Flanagan at bow. 

On Sunday, the Lady Monarchs will compete in the Open 8+ event which begins at 12:08 p.m. ODU has two boats competing including the Open 8 "A" and Open 8 "B" boats.
