SCOUTING THE TRIBE

Correal, who earned preseason All-CAA accolades, averaged 13.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per outing from last season, while Aldridge has drained 221 career 3-pointers, a school-record, which included a W&M single-season record of 92 last season.
In a vote of the league’s head coaches, William and Mary was picked to finish in a tie for ninth in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Tribe finished 10-20 overall last season and 3-15 in the CAA.
LAST TIME OUT
ODU persevered late over Northeastern on Feb. 17, 70-67, in an emotionally charged atmosphere in the 11th annual Hoops for the Cure game at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
Old Dominion snapped their three-game losing streak in dramatic fashion as a back-and-forth affair was pulled out late by the Lady Monarchs, who had an eight-point lead with just over five minutes to play, before Northeastern went on a 9-0 run to take a 66-65 lead with 1:34 remaining.
Galaisha Goodhope then responded by drilling a three-pointer to put ODU back in front. After a frantic sequence of events, NU had a chance to tie from the free throw line with eight seconds remaining but the Huskies’ Deanna Kerkhof missed the second free throw and Tiffany Minor was fouled on the rebound. Minor sunk both free throws to put ODU up, 70-67, and NU’s game-tying three-point attempt just before the buzzer by Kashaia Cannon was off the mark to seal the ODU victory.
Playing with heavy hearts after the loss of Sara Jones on Friday, the volunteer assistant to head coach Karen Barefoot, ODU shot 50 percent from the field (26-for-52), led by Jackie Cook’s 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists along with Shae Kelley who scored 19 points and added nine rebounds, five steals, two assists and a block.
BUCHAN EARNS ACADEMIC AWARD
Redshirt senior Mairi Buchan was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team on Jan. 31 for the second straight year. The teams are selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Buchan holds a 3.93 grade point average majoring in biology (pre-med).
ATOP THE CAA IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
Old Dominion finished tied for the best non-conference record in the league at 9-3 along with Delaware.
Both the nine non-conference wins and the 9-3 start are bests for ODU since the 2007- 08 season when they went to the Sweet 16 with a record of 31-5.
BAREFOOT PRINTS
ODU head coach Karen Barefoot enters her 14th year as a head coach in 2012-13 and 200 plus wins in her career as she leads the Lady Monarch program in year two.
